Case boxes?
Case boxes?
I bought this knife on an auction and it came in this box and wrapper. My question is- does this box look like it is from the same time frame? In other words, does it look like the original 1976 box? Thanks so much for any input!

Re: Case boxes?
No. In 1976, with few exceptions Case pocket knives were not individually boxed. They were individually wrapped in paper like the one you have, but shipped in boxes of 1/2 dozen or a dozen. Individual boxes came along in mid-1980s.

Athough most all knives in the 197o's time frame were not shipped individually boxed I believe these individual "gift" type boxes were available then. I purchased a large Case floor display in the late 70's that had some old stock still it in. A good number of several different sizes of these gift boxes were in the stock drawers of the display. All were grouped by size laying flat and unassembled, bound by rubber bands.
I'm not sure of the exact time frame or how they were priced but Steve might know all of the specifics.

Wayne-thanks for that info! Do you feel like this box could be the original?btrwtr wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 1:18 pm Athough most all knives in the 197o's time frame were not shipped individually boxed I believe these individual "gift" type boxes were available then. Re: Case boxes?
The box isn’t really original to the knife in that it was added to the knife at some point after the knife was shipped in it’s original box of six to the retailer. The original shipping boxes were normally labeled to show the specific contents as far as the knife patterns were concerned. These individual boxes were not labeled by pattern, came in a variety of sizes and were used according to what knives they would fit. Whether added at the original store sale or not there is no way of knowing. Still nice to have it and a positive addition to the knife.DMLEATH wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 12:28 amWayne-thanks for that info! Re: Case boxes?
Case offered those gift boxes in three sizes, from about the early to mid 1960's, ending in about late 1985 when they switched to shipping knives from the factory individually boxed in a different style of boxes with new graphics.
