Did Ulster make custom knifes?

Post by raincrowe »

It's been 50 years now since Ulster knife making discontinued in 1972 according to Goins Encyclopedia Pg 278
I have mint Ulster knife three and seven eight's inches... marked on the blade Ulster trademark 98 G on the tang Ulster knife USA
(No other marking) this knife has beautiful bone handles great quality and extremely well made
I have seen other knives made by Ulster by not like this one
My question is...Was this a special edition or custom made???
Any and all discussion welcome Thanks in advance ::tu:: ::tu::

Very nice knife but a regular production one.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Ulster was still making some very nicely etched, bone handled knives after most US companies had discontinued etching blades. I think this knife might date from the 50's or early 60's but just a best guess.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

It's definitely in the '53 catalog. The '59 catalog shows it as just the 98 (no G) with bonite handles rather than jigged bone. Likely made the switch sometime around '57-'58.

Very nice example. I see that 98G model listed in Ulster catalogs from 1951 (shown below) to 1958.

Wow...That is older than I thought... this knife could be 71- 64 years old awesome...to be in mint condition... how much is it valued at? ::tu:: ?
