Case 4 Blade 64047 handle question.

Post by DMLEATH »

I bought this nice Case knife on an auction. It seems to be almost new condition but I see a bit of a defect on the handle. Does this look like something from the factory? The area I am looking at is around the middle pin it looks cut out a little above it. Almost a hole the same size as pin but not cut all the way through. Thanks for any input!

That’s caused by the pin spinner machine missing the pin during manufacturing. In other words, bad aim. It’s a cosmetic defect seen occasionally. Somewhere here on the forum is a video tour of the Case factory, in which it shows the pin spinning operation. I’ll see if I can find it and post a link.

Edit: Here’s a link to the video. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=69753&p=889472&hilit=Tour#p889472 The pin spinning operation is at 3:27 into the video. As you can see, the manufacturing operator inserts the knife into the pin spinner fixture. Get it in wrong, and you have what you see on your knife.

Dave, that 047 is a real beauty! But, if you can't live with it with that factory defect, you are welcome to sent it to me. I'll even pay for the postage. ::rotflol::

That is a sweet '78 knife. I knew immediately from the dye job it had to be late '70's/early '80's. Very cool.
