The blade configuration of the first gen 72 was definitely used by Camillus long before the 72 was introduced in 1946. Here's one I have with the Sword Brand on the mark side and a 4 line stamp on the pile side. The only difference is the regular nail nick on the master.

Dang Greg you amaze me with your knowledge and the knives you keep showing us newbies . with both those tang stamps it’s definitely before 1946 . So with those stamps it could go back as far as the 1920 s ?

Jp it's been a lot of fun trying to unravel this Camillus story over the years. Still not sure we know anything for certain.

Greg, Jerry referred to the handles as looking like the "brittle milk plastic" of the 30's. He also mentioned that the lack of handle pins is something of an enigma. That they were discontinued in 1976 but this knife appears to be well before that. It is a head scratcher for sure. Yours is the only other one I have seen. Another Camillus mystery. Thanks.

Floyd . Look inside the blade well . Is there any plastic tabs coming thru liners if not look at liners and see if there are 4 little prong punctures in the liners themselves. Those are tabs for holding the handles . Dale wrote about this a few years back and was just reading it the other day . So in a short Camillus had 2 other methods of attaching handles besides pins .And believe he said it went back to the 1930 period or? Hope that helps you Sir.

Skip I believe those showed up in the late 60's and early 70's somewhat in conjunction with the Deluxe line. The ones marked Sword Brand also had the crossed swords etch on the main blade.
