camillus #72

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

I bought a knife! This is my first addition in way over a year! I plucked this poor old 72 off ebay. Unfortunately, the main blade has weak snap on closing, but I haven't tried to clean or lube it yet, so maybe there is a chance it will get a bit better. I also have a BSA 72 on the way, also just another low-end find that I'll post when it arrives.

Nothing wrong with that one ::tu:: ::tu::
Throw a little oil on it and give it a try . Great shape and it’s the earlier pinned covers piece.

A CAMILLUS BSA "72" is actually a CAMILLUS BSA "1047."

Here's the BSA that I received today - saved another old knife from the clutches of ebay... The Delrin on the front side is fairly washed out, but all the blades snap like a gator. I didn't realize that 1047 doesn't have the model number stamped on any of the blades? I guess with the BSA shield, Camillus thought it was pretty obvious what it is?

The 72 s are stamped on pile side of main as you’ve said. The 1047some would say isn’t really a 72 . If you look on the 72 clone thread there’s a bunch of these 1047 s with a few different shields . You have a nice piece there Luggage ,take care out there . ::tu::

I don't consider a 1047 a clone, but that's just my opinion. More like a twin brother.

When First getting into these here didn’t know the difference and thought they were all 72 s . Heck barely knew what a tang stamp was !
It’s a fun gig and always something new to learn .

Well, I posted it here because I didn't think so either. It's made by Camillus, same steel, same cover materials, same action. They could have stamped it 72 and no one would have batted an eye.

This morning, this pocket knife became the latest to join my CAMILLUS collection. It is another CAMILLUS "72", 3 blade, swelled center, 3 5/8" closed, short line tang stamp, 1st generation, "whittler" pocket knife. Unlike the last "72" that I posted a few weeks ago, this "72" has ALL 3 blades. It needed very minor cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.
