What is the Stainless Steel that Schrade & Camillus Used?

I purchased several stainless steel blade blanks unground along with some that were ground and heat treated. I also have a few carbon steel blades and I know what to do with those. Most of the ground and heat treated knives have been dropped and have the tip bent. I assume that they have been tempered - otherwise the tip would be broken.

I wanted a few of these to play with - "spare time" fun.

Here are a few pictures.

The first picture has an XT4 at the bottom, a UH 1, and a small hunter with a Remington at the top.

The second picture is more of the same, but the bottom 2 have been heat treated and are ready for the final work. I don't know what kind of steel those are but would like to know.

The third picture has two different Remingtons with one stamped RH 50 I don't know the steel on those either.

The last picture is of some Western knives that I believe are 420HC SS steel and will get stacked leather handles. I believe they are WL66 models.

I would appreciate any help I can get regarding the type of stainless that they used. I would appreciate any other information that you can give me.

Hukk, 440A on the Remingtons. That's all I have so far...

Can't help much; but I think #2/#6 is actually a Camillus made MooreMaker blank. Which would make it 1095 instead of SS. I had several of these at one time, with only about 25% stampled.

Got some more, knives stamped Schrade+ were 440A, blanks #3 and #5 look like Schrade PH2's, which would make them 440A as well (although I've also heard that these were 440C), I'm not certain if Schrade didn't switch grades from time to time. Here's a shot of a finished version:

I forgot one thing, the XT4 was a very new knife, due out in 2004 but as far as I know none were produced before the factory closing, only the blanks were made. I'm not sure if these were the standard 440 or some other steel. I know a couple of the later XT models were made with ATS-34, but I don't believe they were marked Schrade+, and their retail price was over $100, while this knife was earmarked for a $59 price tag. This leads me to believe that it may be 440A, and not the more costly steels.

Thanks for the info guys! I can do a spark test for 1095 on blades 2 and 6 the handle area and keep it for myself - though no one would be the wiser - but I'd know. Besides, I could use a knife that size to EDC. So, I'd keep that one. 440A and 440C get heat treated the same, a hardness test will determine what it is, there are more carbides in 440C so it will get harder. I think I'd like to keep an XT4 and maybe a couple others.

The Camillus stainless blades will mostly be 420HC. Some of the older blades (definitely the RH50) will be 440A.
The Camillus Carbon steel blades will be 0170-6C (aka Carbon V).

The "Special Bolts" to fit the tang keyhole slots are just standard pan head screws that were inserted into the slots & compressed in a small press. (Camillus was actually granted a patent for this assembly method!)
Assuming that sort of tonnage is not available to you (I wouldn't want to try it with a hammer) I would sand off the extra material on the sides of the screw heads, & then secure them in the tang with braze, solder or even epoxy.

Thanks for that information! I am building an 8 ton pin press using 2 pieces of I beam, box iron, angle iron, and a 8 ton Hydraulic Jack. I will also have 3/8 O-1 rod going through the box iron. I found a piece of I beam instead of the channel iron Tracy uses. I need just one more piece of iron before I weld it up - then paint.
