Quick Steel wrote: Sun Nov 07, 2021 8:59 am Tom, I always like smooth covers on my using knives. I have not had exposure to Klass knives. Google tells me that they are all made in Solingen.
Yet the retail prices are quite low which surprises me. Can you tell me anything about this brand? Thanks.
Klaas, Robi Klaas or also Kissing Crane knives were originally a high quality brand produced in Solingen, Germany. I'm not sure if they still produce any knives there but you can still buy Klaas knives that were produced there at some point in time. You can tell the difference between the real "Made in Solingen" knives & the newer "Made in China" Klass knives by the price tags. A real "Made in Solingen" knife will be in the same price class as a comparable Case knife. The imported Klaas knives are in the price class of imported RR, Mables or Schrade knives. I don't have any made in China Schrade knives but I do have a few RR & one Mables from China. IMO the imported Klaas knives blow these out of the water. They are really well made. At least the 5 or so that I have. ::tu::

On a foot note: I believe, ::shrug:: , that Klaas & Böker producing a few knives at home & the larger bulk amount in China. I have one made in China Böker lock back. It is also a very nice knife. ::nod::

Hope this helps QS. My conclusion: Made in China Klass knives are as good as, if not even a bit better than, a normal RR & well worth their price. All IMO. ::nod::

Oh, & the smaller Klaas pen knife is a Solingen knife. ::tu::

Thought I'd go with two slick black Klaas knives this next week or two. Normally it's a week. Unless I have my Purina Stockman in my pocket, then it often ends up being two weeks for some reason. ::hmm:: ::shrug:: I guess it is, along with my Case Zippo, truely my favorite EDC. Just don't tell that to my other knives! ::paranoid::

Anyways, here they are, this weeks pocket pals. ::tu:: Thanks for looking friends! ::handshake:: :D

Edit: More pictures of & a little poem about the smaller Klaas found here.: https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kn ... &start=325
Nice knives Tom!! :)
Thanks for your comment woodwalker! ::handshake:: Appreciate it Buddy! ::super_happy::

I think I'm going to neck knife this Boker Kalashnikov auto with a Harpoon blade today. Stonewashed D2, aluminum frame, Carbon Fiber colored Kydex and smooth operation. 😎

Tom, Thanks for breaking down the Klass situation. Your analysis makes sense of the prices.

redrider, I think your neck knife is impressive, especially if it is sufficiently lite enough for your intended purpose. Looks very well made.

Thanks, QS! Actually the minis are better for neck knifing, but I'm still waiting on that Kydex sheath to show up. I think it's pretty discreet though.

Sorry, I did delete all my listings. To restart all I have to do is renew my premium subscription. Meanwhile, I'm just hoarding them.

I knew it was deliberate. Everything, head and horns, were too perfectly centered for an accidental shot. Still, they are becoming.

I think they're originally from a place in El Paso. Bought them from a chili place in Arlington that was going out of business. Could be Matador or Amarillo too? Stamped on the mounting plate which is against the wall, I've had them for several years.

All my life, I've been carrying a Buck stockman, but if I didn't carry that, I'd carry a single blade, inexpensive, carbon steel Barlow. There is something about the Barlow that makes it the purest form of the pocket knife. Unless you use your knife for a living and have a specific function you need, the Barlow can do everything a person needs, simply and elegantly.
