LCO knives Native American Handmade

These knives are reported to be handmade by the Lac Corte Orrielles band of Chippewa Indians in Montana. I have been looking at one and wondered if aNY of you guys had e er owned one or know anything about them?

I don't know anything about the knives, but the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin is the tribe you are referring to. Here is the Tribal contact page, I would drop them a line, they might have some more information for you.

Beechtree I appreciate the link and I already found that. Apparently the Montana extension of this tribe operates several enterprises including a Casino. The knife maker is a member of this tribe and apparently operates under it's authority. The knife that I found is in New Mexico and I was just trying to get a feel for pricing and whether or not t hub see knives are actually functional or just display quality. The one I found is not pictured but has a beautiful north American elk handle and is priced substantially higher than the ones that are pictured.I thought maybe I could get a little user feedback .

I know nothing about modern knives, but looking at the knives you posted my immediate gut reaction is that these were made in Pakistan or India.

We had one guy here last year trying to make members believe he was a custom knife maker his knives were marked RBH which was supposed to stand for a man from Rhode Island, Richard B. Henn. The whole story was a sham and a lot of knife collectors fell for the BS and bought these knives for big money. Look up RBH on AAPK you will find the thread I am talking about

Thanks MB! I do recall that little incident but apparently this is a legitimate outfit . I found a review on the web that gave a big thumbs down for the cheap metal in the blades apparently it's file steel so I will keep my money in my pocket and let that one lay.

Well interesting topic . Have Relatives up in Corderay who married into that band up by our cabin . Here’s what I am aware of . The original LCO logo is still used by the nation and tribal members in it however there is some counterfeiting and copy cats . Believe Frank from the Chippewa band started this and the quality is great , the knock offs suck . So like anything ,do your homework . The real stuff is getting good money now . Have this filet knife with the LCO Logo and it’s the best filet knife we have and found it in a pawn shop up by the old family house .
Greg , if you’re not in a hurry next time am up at the cabin on the Reservation will do some checking . Do know a small band left our native grounds years ago and headed to the mountains out west . Can do some more checking.

Hey Jp that was several years ago when I was traveling through New Mexico quite frequently. I found a pretty decent looking one at the Navajo casino in Acoma. They wanted $250 for it and wouldn't take any less so I guess it' still out there.

The decent ones and knock offs are easy to tell apart . Like those MB posted look like el cheapest crap with a LCO oval kind of sad but there’s money involved . 250 does seem high for one but someone at the Casino will grab it after they hit it big .
