Strange knives

Post by Sam »

My wife's brother-in-law in Alaska sent me pictures of these three knives and this note.

HI SAM, AFTER YOU CALLED I THOUGHT I SHOULD SEND YA A COUPLE PIX OF SOME OLD TOYS I HAVE LAYING ABOUT THE HOUSE. THE FIRST ONE IS OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN, I GOT IT AS A CHRISTMAS PRESENT AND ONLY KNOW THAT IT CAME FROM AN ANTIQUE SHOP IN OREGON CITY IT HAS NO MARKINGS ON IT ANY WERE THAT I CAN FIND. THE TANG IS INTERESTING, IN THE HANDLE CLOSE UP YOU CAN SEE THE TANG IS PULLED AWAY FROM THE HANDLE AND I BELIEVE IT IS A SEPARATE PIECE THAT WRAPS AROUND THE BASE OF THE BLADE ON THE TOP ITS ALMOST LIKE A SECOND TANG, I'M SURE THAT THERE IS ONE FRON THE MAIN BLADE INTO THE HANDLE.
THE SECOND ONE I GOT FROM MY X. WIFES BROTHER. HE NEEDED CASH AND WE LOANED HIM SOME, OF CORSE WE NEVER GOT IT BACK BUT HE LEFT A BOX OF KNIVES WITH US AND TOLD US WE COULD KEEP THEM ...NOT SURE BUT WHAT WE GOT THE SHAFT ON THE DEAL...I BELIEVE IT COMES FROM INDIA. THE HANDLE IS IVORY, I SUSPECT ELEPHANT, THE CASE I THINK IS SILVER, AGAIN NOT SURE THE ONLY MARKINGS ON IT ARE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE CASE. I CANT READ THE TOP LINE BUT THE BOTTOM ONE SAYS "100%cl " WHAT EVER THAT MEANS???? THE CORD APPEARS TO BE A COTTON OF SOME SORT, NOTHING FANCY . THE HATCHET IS BUCK.

I was wondering if anybody recognizes these and I could pass on some information. If not, at the least, they are interesting to look at. I have some more pictures if needed. Sam

The wavy bladed one has some similarities to the southern Philippine Kris, A Moro weapon.. If this is so I would suspect the fancy one could be from the Southeast China region Thailand,Viet Nam area. There were some nice ones from the middle east also. I would suggest taking various photos of the buck and posting in Buck Forum. The Buck factory Historian visits there often, if he does not know the particulars he may have resources to find. They are all three very nice. Depending on amount of loan you may not have gotten hurt at all.

Hi Sam,

Does the Buck hatchet seat into the knife pictured with it? If so, could you possiably show a picture of it put together. I'm very curious about this piece. Very cool item IMO. ::tu::
Thanks,
Phil

The answer is, yes It does. Is there a photo of the Buck Mark, is it on the spine or on the tang? What does it say? It appears to me to be a CASE. As a matter of fact here is a blow up of sheath marking that says CASE XX. Value as is maybe 130-160. The price is a WAG without seeing better photos.

Johnnie:
Is that number for the Wood, Cel or Stag handle. If it's for the wood they have beat the heck out of inflation. I was basing my price at about $400 NIB.

So that would put the Stag around a Thousand and the wood around 500. WOW nice gain.
