New and know nothing- what kind of knife is this??

I found this knife at an antique store and am looking to restore it a bit. I’ve gotten the rust off, but it needs a polish. Besides that, though, does anyone know anything about this type of blade? The detail is gorgeous. It has no inscriptions on it at all, so I’ve got nothing to work with.

Also! Anyone have any idea what I could use to get the line out of that brass bit there?

Inexpensive knife made in Pakistan.
You might get the "line" out of the brass by polishing it with Semi-Chrome.

That type of blade is called Damascus steel. You can look up details about it on the internet, just put Damascus steel into your search engine. Be careful though as some faux Damascus, made by using acids to give the steel a Damascus appearance, is sometimes used because it’s cheap compared to the real thing.

That same Semichrome recommended by David can also be used to polish the blade (Flitz is another brand name - basically the same very mildly abrasive polishing paste).

I think it might be one of the knives sold by Amazon under the name "best.buy.damascus.1". I agree, probably from Pakistan.

No matter where or who made it looks like a nice knife. I would agree it could very well be made in Pakistan. Doesn't necessarily mean it's junk.
