I caught a lengthy BNSF coal train rolling through the countryside.and managed to get a pic as it was emerging from under a highway overpass. Check out the 3rd pic down, it would give any Green New Deal proponent a heart attack. First of all, you have diesel burning locos pulling 100+ cars full of nasty fossil fuel, on the way to be burned in a power plant in Missouri. Now, look closely to the left of the silo in the background. The plume of what appears to be smoke (actually steam) is from another coal burning power plant here in Illinois.

Cool pictures, Ike. Loving your 3rd picture analysis of the situation. One of the things I like about the NYC Subway system is you can still smell the coal from years past.

Uh yes, hmmm no, well yeah I guess you could say so

It is CN property but is one of the locos aquired from the Illinois Central buyout, still in IC paint scheme.

It looks like CN is tracking their acquired diesels the way Chessie did by painting an abbreviation under the window.

I found these B&O RR pictures on Twitter yesterday, the one next to the stream is heading into Cumberland from points West. Incidentally, the stream is called Will's Creek, named after Indian Will. Supposedly his gravesite is located between Cumberland and Bedford, PA, I would like to find it one day.

* I see a C&O diesel snuck in there too.

Love the second photo of the 2 Bulldog EMD's. Just had this sent to me of 2 of them under full power up a 1 in 50 gradient. If you love the sound of those old loco's you will love this. I cannot do the links, well beyond my tech skills, but look this up on Youtube.

A few pics from museum visit.....

The Milwaukee Road refrigerator car was used primarily for produce. It had ice bunkers at each end, capable of holding 10-11000 lbs of ice. In the winter, charcoal heaters would be placed in the bunkers to prevent the product from freezing.

The NYC electric loco was used to haul passengers from Grand Central to Harmon, N.Y.

The museum has an old B&O Camelback from the 1870s. I had hoped to get a picture for you, but it wasn't on display. There were a few units that I had hoped to see but they weren't out, for whatever reason. I still took several pictures though, and will post more in coming days.

It would, any train enthusiast would enjoying seeing it, I'm sure. I should explain that I thought John would find it particularly meaningful with the family connection to B&O is why I directed that comment towards him.
I guess I will just have to go back sometime and hopefully, see what I missed. I gotta say, my wife was very patient with me exploring the grounds there, not sure she would be keen on going back anytime soon though.
