Are We Ready for Another Bulldog Quiz Yet?

Here we have two Bulldog Lumberjacks. This is a 4 inch 2 blade Moose Pattern. Are any of these a First Generation Knife (1978-1987), a Second Generation Knife (1991-1992), or a Third Generation (1993-1995)? Please answer in the Poll. Guesses are OK, the Poll is anonymous. If you wish and you believe you know the answer, please write it in below. They made this knife in all three of these generations.

I got to looking at my question and , I thought "well, that's not really a fair question, I don't have enough information." So, I removed the third generation option, that one would have had 1993 or Surgical Inst. stamped on the back of the tang, which this picture does not show. By removing that portion of the question, it makes this question more fair.
There is a 50/50 chance since 2 answers are correct Anyone know why?

Left is first and right is second. Right has long pulls , thus making it a second generation. Give me something harder Hukk.

I think Norsefan is on the money on this one, the long pull past the etch is the giveaway. . I too would like to see another poll soon and thanks for this one. I like you see a lot of bulldog knives on Ebay that are not listed correctly. Hopefully the large number of views on this one will prove very educational.

Even though the knife is angled and it appears that this Lumberjack on ebay has a pull that goes almost to the end of the etch, does anyone have an opinion on this ebay knife?

Can anyone tell me if this is a first generation and why? We can also compare it with this knife, link at the bottom.

This should do until I have a new poll out. Ebay will always provide fodder, sometimes right and sometimes, well--WRONG! Both are Equal End Stockman knives with the Cattle King etch.

Well Hukk these bulldogs seem to have sat in a vault in Germany too long , maybe that's the problem we see with these knives,,HA Ha. Seriously, I have seen many of these so called 1st generation knives and am still not convinced that they are legit. I think the color of the stag to be a dead giveaway . It's amazing to have collected 1st generation bulldogs for the last 10yrs. and never seen or heard of all these vault knives and all of a sudden within the last 2 or 3 yrs. see the market flooded with them. But nevertheless it's hard to make new stag look like old. I would like to hear other opinions on this issue.

You don't believe that story either, I take it. There is one thing in common with these Cattle Kings that I see that makes me think it is from a certain generation, I have never seen it on another generation, yet anyway.

Looking at the 2 cattle kings the 1st one has the old stag that was used when Charlie Dorton had knives made in the early 80's. The other one has what a lot of old time traders call new stag, definitely different than the older stag. Used to be with the old 3 blade trappers, they were very valuable and hard to find. Suddenly they pop up a lot, usually with the new stag. We all have heard the stories about the vault overruns and the COA's they have with them. I think most people have their own beliefs about what actually happened or didn't happen.
One thing I would like to say is a lot of people bought these knives not knowing any different at the time. Heck, some of them are hard to tell apart, especially from a picture. I think as some knowledgable people on here say from time to time, you have to READ THE KNIFE. Bulldog collectors need to do this too.

I have to agree with norsefan and olderdogs. I never belived that vault story and why would they need COA's stating that knives were made from 1981 to 1986 or someting like that as some of the rarer knives do. PA Knives was the first I heard use this term "Read The Knife" and for the first 3 generations of Bulldog Brand knives this is very true.
You may have guessed that there is no real answer to this question, really looking for opinions. I can't ever recall seeing a first generation Bulldog Equal End Stockman (Cattle King etch) that had Bulldog inside the sheild like the third and second generation knives do though. In another post I told Sunburst to buy both knives and treat his wife to a weekend retreat. Well, I'm going to do that this weekend, but before I do, I will post another Bulldog poll, lets see what I can come up with. I'm open to suggestions from others, or they can post a poll. I find these polls fun and ineresting, I hope you do too.
