Post by Clark23 »

Hi there, i would like to get some information on this knife. This isn’t mine but someone I know who’s looking for a history and age. Could anyone help me? Tang isn’t clear but what I was told looks appear to read Wingfield Rowbotham Sheffield

1835-1932, Merged with T.T.Turner c.1905.. High quality Sheffield. I have a couple including a very nice hawkbill with triple fluted rat-tail bolsters.
They also were stamped: WADE, WINGFIELD & ROWBOTHAM on the blade and 'No.82, TENTER ST., SHEFFIELD on the tang. Your knife is nice, shame it has a broken blade. With their 100 year history it would be hard to tell just when yours was made. Maybe one of our British enthusiasts could take a try at dating the stamp. J.O'.

Thank you Ridgegrass for the info, I was told it appears to look like a harp pictured on the tang as well next to the name also with oil the joints on tang. Not sure if that may help, hope to hear back more. Yes it is a shame it’s broken for sure. Again this isn’t my personal knife but helping a fellow knife friend.
