Just arrived at the door, got a great deal on the bay. New York Knife Co Scout knife.Excellent condition ,even has some etch visible.
Packing not so good, Used a huge box ,threw in a couple crumpled newspaper and tossed the knife in,it was stuck in the corner where the opening is,can't believed it stayed in the box.

Very nice knife . Like that bone and shield. Etch looks to say Be Prepared is that correct ?
That packing job could’ve cost you the knife! Don’t understand why people can’t take a few minutes and do a little better than that .

Fished this whooper out of the bay recently. It is 5 1/4 inches long closed. Has the 1930's-1940's tang stamp. And there is the screw driver on the butt end. Don't know anything about it but I liked it and it was cheap so..... Thanks for looking. DSCN7332.JPGDSCN7333.JPG

When I saw one of these on another post I couldn't resist...

From the SMKW ad "All of the knives in the Marbles Black Stag Bone series features 440A stainless steel blades with a satin finish and nail nicks. All blades have "half-stops except the Jumbo Trapper Lockback. The handles are black stag bone with brass liners, and nickel silver pins, shield, and ringed, pinched bolsters."

Also here is a statement in an article from KNIFENEWSROOM.COM. I couldn't determine the date of the article.
"In case you don’t know, it’s impossible to get real stag these days. The stag embargo stopped all of that in its tracks quite a while ago, but that hasn’t stopped knife makers from trying to produce stag-like quality in handle material. Very few of these handles really look or feel like genuine stag, but we think the Marble’s Black Stag Bone series might be the closest resemblance we’ve seen yet. Marble’s used genuine bone handles and jigged that bone to resemble stag. The base color of the bone is white and smooth. The jigging is dyed black. The result is a non-stag, but natural handle material that looks very close to genuine black stag."

I chose to picture them on a pile of coins because IMO they are very good knives that are reasonably priced for anyone.

First I'm seeing this, and they're right- to me it resembles what I call Walnut Stag, in character. The color might be a little whiter than golden but the texture looks spot on. Thanks for posting!

Mark, I'm seeing a lot of these Russian prison built knives on eBay, usually around the $100 mark. Also seeing green handled tool knives that ship out of the Ukraine. Are you familiar and what's your thoughts on the quality of these knives? Thanks!

John! I'm familiar with the Russian knives on ebay you're talking about, and after seeing the fit n' finish on the one I posted I'd have to say that mine definitely wasn't built in any prison. The ebay models are crudely assembled and it shows, mine looks like it was built by a professional builder. My opinion of the ebay knives is that they're junk, probably not worth anywhere near $100., but that's strictly my opinion. As for the green Ukraine knives, if I'm thinking of the one's you're referring to, I would say they are much better built than any Russians I've seen, and usually knives from the Ukraine are reasonably priced. Hope that helps buddy!

Those are pretty much the one's I was referring to John, and it's easy to see how much better built they are than the so-called prison knives, at least to me it is. Personally I think the $90. price is right in line with what it should be.

I had another very lucrative day at my mailbox when 3 more knives arrived! I can only post this one today because the other 2 are autos waiting for their blades to arrive. This is a Parker Jumbo Folder made in the 1980's in Japan by Tak Fukutu! 11" oal slip-joint lockback with N/S hardware and thick stag covers. One nice knife!
