Chesterman's Westby Ruler Knive

Post by helenu »

Hi all - I have this lovely knife - Chesterman's of Sheffield, I am planning to sell and wondered if anyone had any more information about it. It opens out into a 6 inch ruler and two pen knives with Coffers, Springs, Drawgear, Ventilators, Rail Fastening, Steel etc on one knife and Joseph Westby Sheffield on both knives. Any info on age, value or history would be most welcome thank you.

It's cool, but I have no idea on value.

Levine's guide says Westby is c.1940's, Sheffield. Unsure if it's just a hardware supply or a knife maker. If a person collects that exact kind of thing, it could be maybe $40. The casual, general collector, I'd say $25 on the high side. Just my opinion. Neat piece though. ::tu:: J.O'.

There are people that collect such knives, but the values are not particularly high.

Here are some recent comparable sales from eBay https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=Ch ... 1&_fosrp=1

Everyone should have a Chesterman’s ruler knife in their collection. But they’re fairly common and can be found on eBay frequently, for not a lot of money. The one I have is an Ibberson version. It too is stamped with advertising.
