What is with this Case knife?

Post by rea1eye »

Saw this knife on eBay yesterday. I think it is a Case Peanut but
did they ever place a hole in the peanut. Also the 1 blade looks
to be replaced? (Not my pictures)

Looks like a 2220 peanut with a re-profiled master blade (should be a clip). Those were available with a bale, which may explain the hole being filled. ::shrug::

Just guessing, it looks like the clip was probably broken/tipped and then reshaped. The number would be 2220, the 1st 2 is worn off, maybe?
As for the mess on the rear bolster, maybe someone cobbled up a pin replacement. ::shrug::
The book says the smooth black was last made in 1975, that stamp is '40-'64, it has been around for a while. :)

I've seen a number of knives where owners have tried to drill through the rear bolster in an attempt to insert their own bail or lanyard. The plan all goes well as they drill through the bolster until they hit the hardened steel backspring. Could be that is what happened to this knife.

Does the back side of the rear bolster look the same as the side shown?
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

The back side looks very similar. What you guys said seems to add up. Drilled through bolster, reshaped blade
due to a broken clip. Probably a knife I would have little interest in.

Thanks for the info.
