Help, what is this Cattaraugus? Any info please.

First time submitter here, so please excuse my lack of verbiage and knowledge. Recently came across this Bowie Knife at an Estate Sale. It doesn’t have any markings that I can see on the Tang. It does have Cattaraugus with the “C” having a tail that underlines the Name. There are no Pattern numbers, etc to help identify age or what not. Is this a Counterfeit piece?? I got it because it looked beat up, but still cool-hope it isn’t a knock off, but my gut is saying it might be.

Your hunting knife (not a bowie) is correct and genuine. It was made by Kinfolks when they were making all the commercial hunting knives for Cattaraugus, and likely dates to the 1930s and has it's correct sheath. These will be found marked Cattaraugus, Case, Kinfolks, and a few other retailers since Kinfolks was a prolific supplier of knives to other companies.

Thank you so much! I looked all over in the old books I have and couldn’t find another like it! For some reason, I am always drawn to these things at Estate sales. I get caught up in imagining their past. Strange...I know
