Nice, Ike.
CSX has been putting helper units in the middle of 2 mile long double-stacks and coal trains.

A 2 mile consist, people don' realize how many trucks that keeps off the roads. Saving road maintenance and pollution. All those idiot's that have ripped up and decommissioned old rail lines, just no forward thinking.1967redrider wrote: ↑Tue Sep 07, 2021 9:47 pm Nice, Ike.CSX has been putting helper units in the middle of 2 mile long double-stacks and coal trains.

Just a bunch of corporate yahoo's that thought they were being smart.
But it turns out, they were dumber then a sack of hammers (like most corporate yahoos). Rail is the lifeblood of are respected countries, everything would fall apart if they shut the lines down.
Even Mr. Evil (Gates), knows this; that's why he owns about 30-40% of CN/CP...
We have brand new inland terminals going up out here. Ultra modern, 150+ car spotting, vs the old ones (75-100 cars). It's really cool walking up to these things, quite the engineering feat to say the least.

I occasionally see an old Illinois Central heritage loco working in my area, so that is not unusual. Today, in about a 15 minute period I saw three! It was just like I had been transported 25 years back before CN bought them out......except my body didn't feel 25 years younger

Just found this link, was posted 4 days ago, thought all my American fellow rail enthusiasts might find it interesting.

Snapped these yesterday, Norfolk Southern switching accelerant tankers at the garbage incinerator and Vulcan Paving switching out gravel hoppers at their adjacent facility using a Trackmobile. A Southbound AMTRAK Acela came by just after I was too far away to snap a shot of it in the mix.

Got a question, David, unrelated to trains. Do you Jayhawkers pronounce the name, Arkansas City, the same as the way you pronounce Arkansas in Arkansas River? I got a chuckle out of that years ago, when talking about the river, with an aquaintence from Kansas. I didn't realize that there was also an Arkansas City.

Re: Any Train Enthusiasts Out There?
Thanks, Ike.
The little Trackmobile was in action today. You can see its nose peaking out by a tree. Just missed a couple Line & Road trucks highrailing, they were moving along pretty good.

Interesting pics, John
Sounds as if the on again off again sale of Kansas City Southern is back on. Hate to see it, I need to get some pictures in the coming months, they run not too far from me. I guess I wouldn't hate it if I owned about 5000 shares of KCS stock!

I thought that Canadian National deal was over and done with it a few months ago?

It blew hot and cold for a while but never materialized. As of today, CN is out and Canadian Pacific is set to aquire KCS, pending approval.1967redrider wrote: ↑Thu Sep 16, 2021 12:04 amWaukonda wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 9:19 pm Interesting pics, John![]()

Here's some info about that Cryo-Trans car in my first picture. I've seen their refer cars in the yards before.

When I saw this CN switcher going by, had no idea what was going on paint-wise. Evidently, this is what is left from a paint scheme of diagonal striping used back in the 80s. Hope it gets repainted soon!

Yup its looking a little rough around the edges.
Saw a Kansas City Southern double stack sitting in the south yard but was unable to get a pic of it.

I Encountered some UP action today. Okay, it wasn't a chance encounter, I was near a busy subdivision and hung around for 45 minutes.
