Bulldog 5 1/2 inch stockman

Today I purchased a Bulldog Brand Stockman that measures 5 1/2" when closed. All the blades are stamped "1998" and it has the standing bulldog tang stamp and etch. It is as near to mint as you could get. I have seen the big Anglo Saxon Whittlers but I have never seen a big stockman like this. I was planning to put his on eBay along with some other knives I picked up today. My question is, what is this knife called -- a jumbo stockman, a giant stockman? Maybe Hukk or one of the other Bulldog collectors could help me out?

What you are dealing with is a 4th generation bulldog which means it was made between the years 1996 through early 2000. The standing dog was the tang stamp during those years and was modeled after Mrs. Parkers dog Lucky. There is not a whole lot of information out there on the individual knives of this generation but in 1995 Bulldog made a 5 1/2 inch trapper that they called display size. So I would call what you have a display size 4th generation stockman. Hope this helps

I was just reading this and the answer appeared as I was thinking. The member who answered is very knowledgable on Bulldog Knives and usually has some very nice knives listed on eBay with the same user name. Thanks!

EDIT: I should mention that his descriptions are accurate and that many knives that could be sold as first generation are acurately listed as second or third, whatever the case may be.

Thanks olderdogs and Hukk. I have learned so much from this forum and contributed pretty much nothing, I am starting to feel like a leech. If there is ever anything I can do for any of the members of this forum just let me know.

Hi Butch. I wouldn't feel that way at all. By members posting questions and pictures we all get to learn. I may know a thing or 2 about Bulldog knives and a few others but I enjoy reading and learning about all knives. Questions are a contribution, we have a lot of very knowledgable members ready and willing to share what they know. That makes for a great site.
