UTICA !!!
Re: UTICA !!!
Good evening everyone. Thought I’d post a new pickup while watching the game. The knife is well used, and cleaned up. Wonderful half stops on this Utica. Hope everyone has had a good weekend.

Re: UTICA !!!
This three blade pattern is unique to me. What a nice little knife. 3 3/16".
The spring pin and the cover pins are brass and the shield is nickel silver, I believe.
Liners, springs, bolsters and blades are carbon steel. I love the three blades and the bone on this one.
No half stops.
Thanks for looking.

Re: UTICA !!!
FRJ: Sweet knife! Do you think the "R" is for stainless like the German" Rostfrei"? I have an old UTICA muskrat with the same stamping, I really like the older Uticas. Good honest knives! J.O'.

Thank you, Ridgegrass, I'm glad you like the knife. You're right, the older Utica's are very well made.Ridgegrass wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 11:51 pm FRJ: Sweet knife! Actually, almost all early U.S.A. knives were quite well made.
I don't understand the question about the "R".
Thank you, Ike.

Re: UTICA !!!
Joe, that’s a real nice old Utica. I love the shape of the frame, and that bone is great!

Re: UTICA !!!
Very cool pattern, looks like a 3 bladed mini-trapper.

Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Re: UTICA !!!
FRJ: The "R" on the pile side tangs on those old Uticas. I'm guessing it denotes stainless blades.
A lot of German and European stainless knives are marked "R" for "rostfrei". Just wondering if Utica did that too?
Here's an old Muskrat with the half-moon UTICA over Cutlery Co.,over Utica, N.Y. stamp. Stainless blades. Look at the gauge of that back spring. Tough knife. One of my favorites. J.O'.

Philco and FRJ:
DUH!! FRJ, Got my wires crossed, that question should have gone to Philco! His knife also has the "R" stamp. Guess I "forgot" the original post while writing the answer!
Does anybody have an answer about the "R" stamp? J.O'.

What a great looking, robust old Utica.
Here is a Remington that has a large gauge spring as well. I am only comparing the spring and not associating the "R" to Remington at all. The R on the Uticas is lost on me. I hope someone can comment on that.
Sorry about sidetracking the thread a bit.
Very nice Muskrat, Ridgegrass.

Thank you, Wade.

Re: UTICA !!!
Maybe those big back springs were made to prevent breaking with both blades open. Muskrats look so cool with blades half open.

* not to derail this thread but-
The Remington Muskrat is a work of art, many perfectly fitted pieces that were superbly designed and put together. One of my favorite pocket knives.

Picked this easy opener up yesterday. It’s only my second Utica and second easy open. Thanks for looking and any thoughts on it.
