GEC making Remington’s now?

The Remington Corporation and the knives that they built have influenced the U.S. cutlery industry more than nearly any other manufacturer. From the time America was settled, to the end of WWI, American knife companies struggled to compete with Britain and German imports, but events that occurred during and after the First World War led to a great change in this phenomenon. Unprecedented opportunities arose, and Remington stepped up to seize the moment. In the process, they created some of today's most prized collectables. In an ironic twist, the next World War played the greatest role in ending the company’s domination of the industry.

GEC making Remington’s now?

Post by CampbellAr2 »

Just saw this on SMKW ref a 2021 Bullet knife, which calls out GEC as the provider….

Is this a one off SFO or is Buck done with Remington?

I suspect Remington's recent bankruptcy played a huge part in this. I'm guessing whoever brought the branding rights cut the ties to Buck, and I'm guessing either licensed the name to GEC, or GEC bought the rights.

That being said, I'd rather play $170 for a badge-engineered GEC than $150 for a badge-engineered Buck 301.

That is great news! And it looks solid just like every GEC I have owned. I like Buck but they wasted a potentially great opportunity by not making them here in the U.S.

My understanding is that this is a Special Factory Order placed by Blue Ridge Knives (a distributor) from GEC. A few retailers, like SMKW are getting some of the knives to release to the public, etc.
Always interested in buying: GEC Beaver Tails (any pattern, any year)
Feel free to message me if you would like to discuss.

BeaverTail_Hunter is correct, it's a Special Factory Order placed by Blue Ridge Knives and you will probably see high prices at GEC dealers who get them

I picked up one 20 minutes ago. Not flying off the shelf like the usual GECs. ::shrug::

You can probably blame that on me.
This being my first GEC the bottom will probably fall out of the GEC market.
Also the flippers might not have seen them yet.

I probably wouldn't either but I check SMKW often but would have probably missed it.

I've being reading online that it's a huge run and pricey, I'm sure that has something to do with it, glad you got one ::tu::

So does this mark a new direction for GEC? They made a lot of changes this year, I wonder if this is part of a new strategy to do larger runs at higher prices? Anyone in on the strategy going forward?

Not sure about the larger run going to be a norm for GEC, maybe it was a good contract with Blue Ridge they couldn't refuse and I don't think the higher price is GEC doing, I think Blue Ridge Knives is marking it up to the dealers. Just my 2 cents

I see at least one flipper on fleabay listing one for $325. Last time I checked they were still available at the Big Blue Roof Store for $169. I am not really a collector of Remington knives nor a user of GEC knives, so neither had appeal, but I thought it interesting on how quick they show up by flippers.

Received my knife today.
It looks very well made no gapping blades are centered and razor sharp.
I think it's worth the price. I seen someone on SMKW give it a one star review because it was too expensive. ::shrug::

Mine are perfect, about a strong 6, typical GEC quality, a very well made knife.

I would rate the pull about a six just right for me. ::tu::
I also love the half-stops. I'm very satisfied.

Mine has the lighter bone like one of yours.
It's a beautiful knife. I heard someone say that SMKW now owns the Remington name, do you know if it's true?
