according to goins, both stamps were used 1876-1941

Thanks, Charlie. That sounds like something approximating a definitive answer! Now I just have to slap myself for passing up a couple of ULSTER/KNIFE/CO marked knives because I thought the other was the earlier one

And yes, semloh is holmes- the last name here. Not all that clever on my part, but well-spotted on yours.

I went to a flea market today and found a very nice old Ulster fish knife.
I found the same model at another flea market two weeks ago, but it had a bad handle on.
This one has been sharpened, but very little as the blade is full.
I love these old things!

Just arrived from a friend in Californy! A lightly used Swell Center Whittler, with very nice pearl handles. Stamped Ulster Knife Co. on all three blades, half stops on the two small ones; very nicely made!

Love the Hawkbill and the Barlows! Speaking of the Barlow mystique, I seem to remember something about that when I was growing up, but I was too young to be allowed knives at that time. I wonder what it was all about, that mystique.....

Hey Gringo,
I have one like yours only not quite so shiny and new looking. I collect Boy Scout knives and even though it was not an "official" one, I just couldn't pass it up. Really well made old knife.
I'm becoming a fan of those old Ulsters.

thanks, it is in the condition i found it...other than washing the antique peanut butter of the main blade...nicked myself setting up the photo...

Gringo if that Ulster bit you when setting up the picture, it will need to be quarantined for a while to make sure it doesn't have rabies. You can send it to me for that, just in case it does. I don't want you to have to go through OLD YELLER syndrome of putting it down so, I'll take care of it for you.

3-1/4 inches.
Single back spring. Slim for the pocket, yet big enough to hold on to & be useful.
