Great catch on a beautiful piece of cutlery history Dan!Dan In MI wrote: βMon Aug 16, 2021 10:57 pm Mark, Willie, and Marc, y'all have some good stuff there.
Here's my new one, which USPS decided to get to me a day behind schedule. It is, of course, a Schrade 100th Anniversary 34OT. Though it's not perfect, it's pretty dang nice...and unlike my other 100th Anniversary 34OT, it wasn't full of pocket lint! The other 100th Anniversary 34OT is now a carrier.

Great pics, nice to see how others do it. Never thought of taping off the whole blade when sharpening. Learned another thing or two. Thanks.Loose Arrow wrote: βTue Aug 17, 2021 12:27 am Hope everyone is doing well, just stopping by to share this fixed blade that I liked and bought.

I decided to do it like this because the resting platform for the blade has strong magnets in it, they are removable but they're what hold the knife fixed onto the platform, but as I work on top of the platform they catch the shavings which end up rubbing on the blade; so now I just tape off the entire knife to protect it.

Very cool piece L.A.! I really like the idea of taping off the blade before starting, it gives you a definite concentrated area to work on, and you don't have to worry about messing it up. Great idea!Loose Arrow wrote: βTue Aug 17, 2021 12:27 am Hope everyone is doing well, just stopping by to share this fixed blade that I liked and bought.

Nicely shaped edge LA! Yer on to something, with the taping technique... I don't understand why it never dawned on me, to tape my blades while sharpening. Guess this foggy brained dude can still learn something everyday.Loose Arrow wrote: βTue Aug 17, 2021 12:27 am Hope everyone is doing well, just stopping by to share this fixed blade that I liked and bought.

Thanks everyone, I'm just trying new things in life. Always carried a knife for its utility and collected some but beyond that I wouldn't mess with them, now I'm enjoying messing with them instead of just collecting or destroying them. Lately I've been buying old butcher knives and fixed blades just to sharpen them.WillyCamaro wrote: βTue Aug 17, 2021 8:39 pm Nicely shaped edge LA! Yer on to something, with the taping technique... Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............
I just got a small group of knives, most of which are unremarkable. A couple, though, are interesting, at least to me. One is this little Case stockman, which was a pleasant surprise. No date code, and no marking on any but the main blade.
The other is a Remington...seems like a pretty nice knife, fit and finish not too bad--except the shield, which looks awful. It looks like it was ultrasonically welded into the handle, leaving a mess around the edges. Is this a legit Remington?

That's a Remington R14. (Camillus 72 clone) One of three iterations that I know of.

I got my microscope out and got this photo--it looks to me like the shield was inserted with too much enthusiasm (do they sonic weld these in? that's what it looks like to me...). You can see where the plastic appears to have melted around the shield.

What are the other two blades? Whether sheepsfoot, spey, or pen, that knife and the Remington make a nice duo!
