Here are my Sharks, Taylor Cutlery Sharks to be precise. This is my favorite offbeat pattern, great for crafts, slim in the pocket, and just interesting. The newest, of course, is the Schrade and it is called the Landshark rather than Shark but it is still part of the family. One of the oddities of the original sharks here is they have a double half stop, one that holds them at the angle in the picture and one that holds at 90 degrees.

Fins to the left....fins to the right....it's a shack attack tonight!


Here is the new Schrade, nice, well made, but nothing too fancy. Beside it is my favorite Shark, the Stag. This has nice stag front and back.



Next we have the showoff of the group in candy strip glitter, this one also carries a shield. And then we have my green Shark, sadly his scales have cracked...perhaps a scale change in the future?



Those are my Taylor Sharks...I am still collecting the different colors, there are blue, gold, white, black, etc...hopefully it will be fun finding them all.

I had seen the Old Timer Landshark, but not the others. That is a very interesting and unique collection. Do you know anything about the history or origin of this pattern. You've got my curiosity aroused with this post.
(BTW careful with that Bobby Darin reference, you'll date yourself. )

my guess on the pattern is with its design you can tell its made to work.

but still a neat collectable pattern. taylor cutlery mostly being made in japan and now i think china
produces almost all of them.

i love the stag. i have bid on a shark here and their and have gotten out bid. hhhhmmmmm

i personally think they are dreat little knives. i owned one taylor and its the only knife i have ever lost.

taylor imported nice knives but on some blades its weird you can tell they tried to hide the japan stamp farther down the tang or in some cases i have seen the japan stamp in a very light type.you have to bend it at the light to see it.and it will be on a slightly different angle then the surgical stamp.once again i have seen the japan stamp bold.so maybe it was just how they were handled down the line as they were made??? anybody?
i have had folks swear to me that heir taylors arent japan becuase it doesnt say it. i tell them to get out the magnify glass.almost everybody finds it.

i own a few taylor stag pieces and think they are great for the money. all 1979-1980. pic of one is below.

one question absinthe? the old timer is new china schrade i would think? if so how is it compared to the rest?

The new Schrade is a Taylor made and yes, it is made in China but honestly the fit and finish is as good as the US made Schrades I have. All but the Schrade do prominently say Japan on them and are, I think, of higher quality than the Schrade. The shields on the green and candy stripe also say Elk Horn which was a Taylor Cutlery branding as well and all three of the old ones have Elk Horn blade stamps. They are also dated, 2 with 1980 and one with 1979. I have one other Taylor Cutlery knife as well. It is an all metal marked Elk Horn as well and also made in Japan, dated 1980.



Oh yes, one other oddity on the older Sharks are they have quarters stops instead of a single half stop. there are three distinctive pauses in the opening, almost as if done for display purposes.

IIRC, I saw something back in the 1980s about Stewart Taylor designing the Landshark.
He seems to produce one in most every brand he owns.

More Sharks. The white handled one has no blade etch and the blue and white checkered handled one is a Bear Creek. Size distortion from being a little too "close-up"
