Blade Etches

This is a 1993 Third Generation. It is 1 of 100 and is a BKC 585. That is third generation Greenbone. There were also 100 made with Solingen Carbon steel - sisters of this knife.

Here is another Cattle King with no etch-BKC 600. These are rare 1 of 24 and 24 were made with Solingen Carbon steel. This is also Surgical instrument steel - it is not 440C. These knives are often sold as first Generation and 440C - wrong. Bulldog did not use 440C until 2007 and the only stainless steel of the first generation is the Cowboy's Pet series.

Here is a picture of a First Generation Greenbone Cattle King, BKC 360.
DIFFERENCES:
1. Jigging
2. Color of bone
3. Bowtie shield is blank - Bulldog on shield started in 1993 except some rare second generation prototypes.
4. Will not have Surgical Inst. on the tang, that started in 1993.
5. English Steel 1985 will be on the tang for first and second Generation knives. On pile side.

I really do not like blade etchings at all. I just can't stand a lot of writing on my blades.

Each to his own! Some are ugly, but a lot of them are very nice.

Here is a Third Generation Bulldog knife that sold on 1-18 as a first generation knife. This is the same knife that Upnorth and johnnierotten posted, a third generation Bulldog Cattle King BKC 585.

This seller on eBay continually misrepresents the knives he sells - many Bulldog knives he sells as first generation are third generation. I contacted him on this knife and MANY other knives that were falsely represented as a first generation knife without success. So, it's my opinion that this is a seller who does not really care - all about the $$$ - not honesty!

Be careful when dealing with Anythingyouwantdirect Knives. I've seen many Bulldog knives misrepresented as first generation and if you email him, you just get THANKS. Just a one word response and the knife is sold as a first generation because they bring more money in my opinion.

Below is a TRUE First Generation Greenbone BKC 360, Second Generation is Brown Bone and also has a plain shield - the jigging is like a third generation. English Steel 1985 will be on a tang on a blade on the pile side.

Also there is a second generation Cattle King BKC 360-A (1 OF 36) pictured in brown bone. BOTH HAVE ENGLISH STEEL 1985 AND PLAIN SHIELDS. A THIRD GENERATION WILL HAVE SURGICAL INST. OR 1993 ON THE TANG as well as Bulldog in the shield - your primary clue. See the examples that Upnorth and johnnierotten posted. Watch your $$$.

Agreed. I do have some knives with blade etch and one or two are really OTT IMO, but it's a personal preference thing. If I was offered a choice of two identical knives, one with blade etch and one without, I'd go for without.
