Brass Overlay Griffon Knife - Help!

Post by mcb0730 »

Hey guys, new to the site! Picked this one up the other day at a garage sale for $4. It’s a Griffon out of Bridgeport, CT. Just wondering on a date range on this. I also haven’t seen too many with the brass overlay in my google searches. Appreciate any help!

Welcome to the forums! Goins lists Griffon Bridgeport CT from 1893 to "present"(it was printed in 1986).It is hard to date Griffon knives but if I had to guess I would say sometime after 1900 to the mid-1920's.The knife is what is normally known as a "fob knife" designed to be hung on a chain for a pocket watch. The "bail"(the little loop that holds it to the chain)is missing on yours. It looks like it could be gold plated and would have said so on the bail.
There is not a whole lot of collector interest in these although there are some who collect them.
