Nice Pete, I like the way that Barlow is curved. Is the handle ivory? It sure looks like ivory. Very nice old Barlow.
I'm not Pete, but it sure looks like bone to me.Sharpnshinyknives wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 12:30 amNice Pete, I like the way that Barlow is curved. Is the handle ivory? It sure looks like ivory. Very nice old Barlow.
I think you are right David, I didn’t look closely at the larger pictures, it does look like bone when you see those.edge213 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 12:35 amI'm not Pete, but it sure looks like bone to me.Sharpnshinyknives wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 12:30 amNice Pete, I like the way that Barlow is curved. Very nice! How old would you estimate this knife to be?
You state you have little knowledge on barlow's, keep it that way, you don't need another rabbit hole to get caught in, it is a maze down there.
Really Awesome Barlow!
Just like edge213, I had to look that one up. A very nice HOK (honest old knife) barlow.
Thanks P.B.Papa Bones wrote: ↑Tue Jun 08, 2021 5:53 pmI don't know, but it is a beaut!! Gotta love the handles.

P.B. I have a couple of these "Ric-Nor"s like yours also in like new condition. I like the Boston,U.S.A stamping on it and I am a sucker for timers like the "Ric-Nor"sPapa Bones wrote: ↑Tue Jun 08, 2021 5:57 pm I added another barlow to my group. It is a cheapie, but like new, and I like knives that are a little different. This one a Barlow produced by Providence Cutlery Company for Ric-Nor electrical supply. It is unused and like new. It has "Electric Mate" stamped on the bolsters, has a tang stamp of "Ric-Nor" over "Boston,U.S.A.", black plastic shell handles with a bail. The main blade is a Large Sheepsfoot blade and the secondary is a screwdriver blade and has a liner lock. Blades are tight, no wobble and has great snap. This is a cheapie, but a design that I think is neat, plus I like the history behind it.
Ric Nor was an electrical supply wholesaler. The company was formed in 1914 and went out of business in 1966. The knife tang stamps reads Boston, however Ric Nor was primarily located in Charlestown, Massachusetts. The Electric Mate was an electrician knife made for Ric Nor by the Providence Cutlery Company located in Providence, Rhode Island.

Appreciate it SSK. They pop up from time to time. Usually from like new to varying degrees of use.Sharpnshinyknives wrote: ↑Tue Jun 08, 2021 6:17 pm That’s a new one on me Smitty, never seen a Barlow double as an electrician’s knife. I like it and wonder why you don’t see more of this? Very useful knife for an electrician.
Thanks Floyd. That's what makes this hobby so fun. Seems like there is always something different around the corner.
Appreciate it TopDog. I'm with ya on that.
