Dave Canterbury Scout King. 4 1/4 closed". I decided to see just how a big Scout knife would be in EDC without blowing the $50-60 a Remington 4243 from Camillus goes for these days. This was $15. What's unusual to me is the sewing eye in the awl. Has a 3" blade. From the photos, I thought it just had a regular Scout blade, but no. Good one to take on camping trips, carry as a work knife, and if I lose or break it, big deal. Marbles and RR are probably the sole Chinese-made knife I don't mind buying.

Gun Tool Screwdriver. These are a copy of one Colt sold in the '60s and '70, which was sorta based on the old 4-in-1 Craftsman is known for, but they only had three tips, with the smallest for adjusting sights. The Craftsman is no longer made in the USA and is crap. Same cost, same country of origin. These appear to have somewhat better formed tips, and a long chain that I can use as a backup for neck knives. I bought two, as I lose my Craftsman ones constantly.

Leatherman finally did what I've been asking them to do for about seven years now--make an affordable model similar to the PST. Just released this week; it's called the Bond. At $50 shipped, it's not too expensive either. It does lose that extra small screwdriver the original has (which has saved my arse multiple times when the lens popped out), but in its place I gain the square shank Phillips I can use with an adapter to be able to use any bit I want. Plus, it has compatibility with the Free series pocket clip; which pretty much if you want a clip on the PST, you'll have to make or modify an existing clip. Has the same pliers head as the older pre-Plus Wave, which I really like.

I can use the same pocket clip as on my Free T2. I dislike the Free T2, and am not paying $10 for another clip, so I'll just use the one off of that.

Leatherman isn't very clear.


At least assembled in USA with some parts made here. I know LM does source certain parts from Mexico (pliers on certain models) and Taiwan (the screwdriver bits), but a lot of the parts are made here.

The Frees have enough parts to where the blade and pliers are both marked "Leatherman USA" like the old tools; but I don't know about this new model.

I called them about a year ago. They said everything was made in the U.S.
I'm not so sure.

Was hoping I could find a Schrade-made Folding Hunter for cheaper under the Craftsman name, but not yet. I did find this.

Sears Craftsman (Kershaw Japan) 45563 Work Knife. Exact same pattern as the Chubby made for Snap-On. New on clam pack.

$30 shipped was less than I paid for my beat-up orange Snap-On Tools Chubby (tough workhorse, but not a massive knife), and about the same cost as a used, but nice one I saw about a week ago.

I don't own very many nice boxed knives, and am trying to rectify that. Pretty much all new knives I buy get used. This is definitely stayin' on the card! First I've ever seen on the card.

Also, a custom fixed blade knife that was pretty inexpensive ($55 shipped) from a maker in Arizona. It was either this one, or some from a maker in CO who had some heavy-duty designs, but they were a tiny bit crude (didn't bother me); and did not include sheaths. Making a sheath for a large knife can run into money; even if you make it yourself. I had a shortcoming with an Italian made knife, and wanted something affordable, but decent to replace it.

Looks like it's a 2019 to me.

Just finished going all in for this BIN Mini-Trapper. Listed as a Wharncliffe, I finally broke down and sent the seller a message advising him that it is a standard Mini-Trapper and not a Wharncliffe Mini-Trapper. Well jeez. I didn't have a 2009 Mini-Trapper.

BTW, he did respond and was very polite and seemingly appreciative for the information.

Jerry...I found myself thinking; 'I wonder what that sticker is hiding'. Hopefully, all you'll have to do is wipe off the glue from it. Vegetable oil works great for that. That's a nice looking red.

You can't beat the Old Yellow Stand-by. Good looking knife Tom. Since it is CV blades it should be a good one for toning. But I'v sure I-man will get with you on that.

I've been seeing that one also. I always thought the bone looked nice, but wasn't sure why someone would wrap a piece of price tag around it. At least he responded to you. I had sent him a message about a month ago and asked about the price tag, but he never responded. WD-40 should take that sticker right off.

Tom, I think your Trapper might be a 2018...but whatever the year, it's a great choice for your first yellow Case. Jerry's Mini Trapper has some nice-looking bones. I have one of the mugs like Steve ordered, and it holds quite a bit of coffee...I can also see it being a great shaving mug. Nice Stockman, too.

My order from Einhorn LLC (Rossr) was inducted into the USPS system today. A much-needed new belt, a slip for a Case Peanut, and a sheath for a Case Sod Buster Jr. Man alive, are these gonna be great!

Nope. This was only a couple of months ago.
About 6-8 weeks ago I sent a package to an address 45 minutes away (I'm in New Jersey). Tracking showed it going through Denver, CO.

I found and picked up another used Case! Two used Cases in a weeks time!

This will be my first Texas Toothpick. Not sure if I like this patern but I will soon find out. Anyways, it's a Case! Gotta find out what the length of it is. Looks like about 3".

As always, Tom, I thank you for the kind words! I'm very pleased with Ross' work, and can highly recommend it. Though if I start toting a bunch of different pattern around, it'll be more practical to do my own leather work.

Your little Toothpick is about three inches long. I hope you'll like it okay. But I suspect you're like me in one respect: I like just about any knife bearing the Case name.
