Thank you, Ivoryman & that's a neat looking Gerber you have. Do you know about when it was made?

Sorry, just rough idea. It was my neighbors, he told me he bought it at the old Portland OR factory/store back in the day. I don't know when that was, but my guess is sometimes 1980-90sish. Just a guess. I got it when he passed last year. Very decent movement, lock up is bank vault insanely solid, no movement whatsoever, and the action and pull is smooth, butter light, slick. Excellent action and lock up. The scales have gaps between them and bolsters large enough to need some filling material. Lame fit, Looks like an armature shaped the antler and then filled it with putty. I would be embarrassed if my seams were that loose. Not even close. Needed a better jig. Anyway, very fine knife otherwise and the price was right as I was gifted it. Thanks.

Well John, that is a 5th generation Bull Dog, i.e. made in 2006.

With regard to BDs the popular belief is that the 1st generation knives are superior to the later generations and therefore command a better price. It's as if those fine German cutlers suddenly developed hand tremors beginning with the 2nd generation. In my view, and based on about 80 knives covering all generations, the prevailing assumptions are silly. Quality prevailed throughout all the generations.

In my view, when the subject is quality traditional pocket knives, BDs ought to be at the head of the class.

I agree. I have four different patterns from 2007 and a couple from 2008. Fit and finish is up there. ::tu::

Beautiful knife Quick, great lines. Great antler. They got some grief in another thread. I love looking at dr.s like yours.
Jtx, that is gorgeous bone. Gorgeous knife all around actually, really sweet, the kind.
DM11 really like those 66 Stockmans. Yours has one of the best looking bone and jigging. Long pull too, cool. And beautiful wood on the Mustang.
Michigan Dan, beautiful red bone on that Case Trapper.

The Calf Roper is one of my favorites & there's nothing wrong with the Mustang. What are those handles that look so good on it?.
