Tool Kit on Ebay

Hello, This is not a counterfeit but I believe there are one or two tools that don't belong. Can you find which one is for sure a replacment and which one is questionable. I am not a tool kit collector so i'm sure there is someone who has a complete set that can tell us.

nothing jumps out as not possibly original to the kit. a quick patent check indicated the adjustible wrench was invented during or before the kits age. the pliers look right at home. some tool kits were specific to a customer's demands and contained tools not manufactured by the cutlery. what are your thoughts?

I'm not a tool kit person but the adjustable wrench just doesn't lok right to me. I was jhoping that another person wh has a similar kit could tell us about the adjustable Wrench. I would also think that the wrench would be marked Clauss ?? Any tool kit people out there ?

i'm not a tool kit expert but i have several. it appears the only clauss mark is on the knife blade itself. so....

Anybody know if this kit was made by Clauss or if it was done on contract by someone else?
Knife looks a lot like another brand I've seen on ebay recently.


I wondered about the adj. wrench as well. Tried to blow up the pic but never could read what is written on the handle.

The seller told me that only the knife blade and hammer are marked "Clauss" and he thought that Case made it ( I disagree with this statement) he also said that the adjustable wrench had some other name that i forgot, I will post the email. One thing would be to check for wear marks inside the band holding the adj. wrench. If there was another tool there it may have made different marks. The adj.wrench just doesn't sit right with me. The knife and the hammer are both stamped, the pliers are not stamped with anything but looks like the same chrome and age as the rest of the set. The cresent wrench is stamped JH WILLIAMS & CO FORGED IN USA. I have asked around and I am pretty confident that this set originally came this way. None of the fittings in the whole set are stamped clauss, only the knife and hammer. Case and Clauss put this set together, that doesn't mean they actually built all the fittings too. The case is made to hold all the fittings in place with leather straps and they all fit perfectly as you can see in the pictures, nothing is missing. I do know that Case made some knives for Clauss, but that kit looks to me like it may have come from Ulster (Although that is just an uneducated guess on my part).

Surely some of the sages round here can shed some light on its possible origins.

I guess that means if the Adj wrench is the carbon steel willaims adjustable that it is from the 1930-40's. I'll find out if it's the williams adjustable or super adjustable model.

the wrench may have replaced another tool, but i suspect the kit was pieced together originally as a set. many were given away as advertising, prizes, etc. and even purpose built for inclusion with equipment purchases. there does seem to be some wear or staining around the wrench slot. does it match the wrench? case did make a few of the clauss knife offerings but not all. there is evidence they made some of there own as well. still a cool kit.
