Need help with this Keen Kutter Knife
I can’t get any detailed information for valuation of this knife. The pattern appears to be an equal end jack, but similar to the cattleman jack.
The # is K73878 3/4. I was able to cross reference to the index in the EC Simmons Keen Kutter Catalog.
That’s where i hit a dead end.
Photos of the knife and screenshot of the index page attached.
Thanks for all your help!!
Steve

SBR:
I have an old, (1991) C. Houston Price (tenth edition), Collector Knives, Price Guide that shows your pattern at $125 for a mint condition piece. In the past 30 years things have risen and fallen many times. All those "book" values are at best, guesses. All knife prices, (not necessarily "values"). seem to be up right now, especially on e-bay and those kinds of markets. Your knife is far from mint and appears well used. Value?, The true value of anything as they say, is what a well informed buyer and seller agree to.
For what it's worth I bought the Keen-Kutter, Easy-Open below last weekend for less than $20 from a man selling his late father's collection. Blades are in better condition than yours, just a little dirty and ebony wood handles. Snaps like an alligator too. It would polish up very well.
Good luck with your knife, like to know what it sells for. Hope this helped.

Re: Need help with this Keen Kutter Knife
thanks for the extremely helpful guidance.
1 more question:
did your book verify if this was a cattleman jack? just curious as there seemed to be some ambiguity in the descriptions.
thanks again J.O.!

Nice old Keen Kutter, Steve.
That pattern is simply called a "cattle knife".

From your pictures, in normal times, this is about a $40 knife.sbreiman1 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 4:23 pm I can’t get any detailed information for valuation of this knife. The pattern appears to be an equal end jack, but similar to the cattleman jack.

I like it!
Try doing a Completed Listings search on eBay to see if any of these have sold recently and what they sold for. Thanks for posting.
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Re: Need help with this Keen Kutter Knife
The GUIDE didn't show a picture or give a title, just a description of the blade styles and size with the pattern number.
Quote:
"K73878 3/4:---(3-3/8"), Stag Handle, Clip. Spay, and Punch Blades. $125" (GUIDE, p.461, Tenth Edition)
I agree it's a "Cattle" style and the $40 estimate seems fair. Good luck. J.O'.

Thanks danno.
Don't you just love it when someone joins AAPK just to get information and then they do something like this??

Re: Need help with this Keen Kutter Knife
I doubt he will get any bids, starting at $150 is ridiculous.

Re: Need help with this Keen Kutter Knife
Agreed. I wouldn't be in at 1/10 of that that starting bid.
