ROGERS BONE??? WHAT LARGE CUTLERY'S--USED THIS TYPE OF BONE?

Hello Everyone, Lets try to list some big major cutlery company's that used this type of bone. A question in knife lore pertaining to toe nail by HS&B. I know Utica, HS&B, and Camillus used rogers bone--what other company's used this bone????? Thanks for your help. Thx Mark

So, add Ulster to the list.
Here are some more. Some interesting patterns here. One is reputed to be from a "pattern drawer". But all seem to have the Rogers type of bone handles. Please comment. I am definitely not an expert on Rogers bone, and am trying to confirm its characteristics!!

Hello Upnorth, I have always known "old" Rogers bone to be yellow in color(especially around the 4 corners), and also it being smooth around the corners, and characteristics of jigging to be smooth and not picked. I tend to believe that newer rogers bone can be different colors(check the pic on the john primble), Just my opinion and would liked to here from others as well. With that said, I think the last 2 knives on the right are not rogers bone but brown pick bone on your knives. I also will post a pic of "old" rogers bone on my kutmaster and wards, and the john primble has a faded yellow/red rogers bone?? what do u think???? Thx Mark

I guess I'm not the only one with a problem identifying/defining Rodgers bone.

To play devil's advocate, I don't see a significant difference in any of the examples Charlie posted. The jig on all is roughly ovoid in shape, and random in size, direction, and pattern.

The two that don't seem to me to belong are the first two pictured by Mark.

I thought the color variations or smoothness on the edges or near the bolsters were a result of hafting, and not of the type of bone ?

The smooth areas are indeed the product of sanding down the bone to meet the bolsters Fran.
Mark, I don't think your first two are Rogers bone. The others are classic examples. The cuts or divots in Rogers aren't usually over-deep. Well worn examples can be nearly smooth.
It was also dyed in many variations of color. Case dyed some red. Case also dyed some Winterbottom bone red, which is quite rare. They recognized that humans like red; evidence: sports cars, pickup trucks, and redbone knives ! Let's not forget redheads!!
Back on track, I agree that my last two examples are not Rogers bone. My apologies; I was just checking to see who was awake - that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!! Seriously, the cuts are different in close-up.
I hope we see more examples! Bring them out guys!!
