Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
Charlie, you have a canoe collection to envy. Love the GEC’s, Kabar’s and the Canal Street’s.
The Carl Schlieper and the Bulldog are very nice.
After seeing all of these, I have some new goals for my collection.

Boker makes a fine example of the canoe pattern so, of course we can't forget them!

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
If we are going to show some old rare ones, this is the best I can do.
A.G. Russell Mohawk Stag Canoe, Henckels, by Boker, 5 blade canoe, A.G. Russell Mohawk Pearl Canoe and a large Case Stag Gunboat.
I know, I brought a knife to a gun fight.

If it makes you feel any better, I brought my fists! And might I say those are some mighty good-looking Canoes!

Quick Steel, thanks for mentioning me in the same breath as Sasquach. I'm trying my best. Here's my favorite - a Henckels with stag:Quick Steel wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 6:54 pm Squatch and geocash, what great taste in canoes you both have.![]()

I tried to get a Henckels just like this a few months ago, but got outbid. That is a beauty.geocash wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 7:36 pmQuick Steel, thanks for mentioning me in the same breath as Sasquach. I'm trying my best. Thanks Dan and Garry. Mine do pale in comparison to many posted on this thread. Canoes aren’t a pattern I set out to collect. I just looked one day and consolidated them into one display case and to my surprise I have about 12 of them. I have had a real shotgun method to collecting. I wish I had focused more on a brand, a pattern or something like stag handles. I tend to buy what appeals to me. Once something trips my trigger, I go after more. I envy those collectors that post one after another of a a brand, pattern or handle material, I wish I could be more like that but old habits are hard to break.

Mark, I hear you. Most of my collecting has been of the shotgun type. It was only Bull Dogs that induced me to focus on them. Now there has developed a growing focus on Japanese fixed blade knives. But apart from these two exceptions everything else is virtually anything that appeals to me.

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
It's not a contest or race Geo. Every collection has its own merit and every collector envies the collections of other collectors. It's the nature of the beast. We are almost never satisfied with our own collection because another collector has a rare one we're looking for or has more knives the we do etc. It's what drives us to keep collecting. I've said it before and I'll say it again, while I appreciate the complements I know collectors who have collections that dwarf mine......and of course I envy them.geocash wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 7:36 pmQuick Steel, thanks for mentioning me in the same breath as Sasquach. I certainly have a soft spot for canoes but, like you QS, I'm subject to snag any knife that "speaks to me" if you know what I mean.Quick Steel wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 9:09 pm Mark, I hear you. Squatch, that horn handle is really interesting. I don't think I have seen one with so much natural white.

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
I've often wondered about that myself. It appears to be completely natural. I'd like to know what specific species of buffalo contributed the horn.Quick Steel wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 10:01 pm Squatch, that horn handle is really interesting. I don't think I have seen one with so much natural white.

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
Buffalo horn: This can be sourced from many different countries. I do know that the horn used in Japanese knives is most commonly Asian water buffalo which are all over in almost every country in S.E. Asia, e.g. Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and on and on. Are these used in Europe and elsewhere? I believe they are. If a reputable knife maker says buffalo then it will be buffalo not simply horn from cattle.
