Hello friends,

I got this idea looking at Jeffinn's knife pictures. So thanks for the idea Jeff!

Starting in May, I will be taking over my first ever office job / desk job at work so I figured I would need some kind of knife display for my desk. Here I will have a "Knife of the month".

VERY IMPORTANT!!! Keeping my eyes on the prize!

Not having a ton of money and looking for something I can change around in a matter of seconds to accomodate varying size and or number of knives, I decided to try my luck with some magnets. These come in a very large variety of shapes and sizes so you can even vary the magnet forms and or your display base object from time to time to keep things interesting and eye catching to yourself & others.

I will point out one possible small draw back. These little magnets are pretty dang strong!
Meaning they are a bit hard to get back off of your knife & may cause scratches on the back springs so handle with caution. But..., I found an easy way to go around this problem by weakening the strength of the magnets. To do so you need some plastic, super glue & a hole puncher. Pictures tell the rest of that topic.

I took a lot of pictures just to give you guys some ideas. It will take me a few min. to get them all posted.

Tom, that’s a pretty good idea, and your fix so as not to scratch anything is simple enough . When I read your first post got thinking, maybe some thin felt instead of paper to mellow out the magnetic pull .
Good luck with your new position ,hope the desk job is a promotion!

I had a similar idea: affixing magnets to pieces of wood. Now I'm going to see what sort of ferrous scrap I have laying around, and find a source for some magnets. Thanks for sharing the pictures and giving me some inspiration!

I put a thin sheet of steel from Home Depot behind this Schrade Walden countertop store display unit and used those little strong rare earth magnets under each knife blade. If the frame of the knife is too thick I have to use a double thickness of little magnets to raise the frame off the steel backing. Works OK. A little selection of pre-war stockman and cattle knives in celluloid.

I have a bunch of those little magnets "hanging around" so I super-glued one into my little antler stand for pictures. That antler was/is so slick where I cut it that there were times when I struggled to get the knife in the proper position. Not anymore. Works like a champ. Thanks for the idea.

So, I'm back.

Went over in the barn this morning because I wanted to take a few more pictures of knives useing a wrench as a base. Which I did. Unfortunately I don't have any Craftsman wrenches. A Craftsman knife over a Craftsman wrench would look pretty cool IMO.

Anyways, I ran across a Whatchamacallit. So I grabed it just to use for a few more pictures. Turns out this Whatchamacallit is perfect for "Whatchamacallit-Magnet-Knife-Pictures"! I swear!

I'll start off with some normal magnet pictures & then go off the deep end with the "Whatchamacallit-Magnet-Knife-Pictures". Oh, almost forgot to mention, I also took some pictures with my favorit spoon.

After seeing the pictures, I have two questions. What is the significance of "Uncle Tom" on the spoon? And what is the knife with the Blue Grass Tools logo? (Any knife having anything to do with Bluegrass is of interest to me.)

I'm getting close to the end of my pictures now. What started out as "a few pictures" this morning turned into a 3-hr Photo Shoot. It was a lot of fun for me & the time just flew by. I actually had to force myself to stop taking pictures.

I call these pictures of knife sculptures. My daughter said "That's not art! That's just caos!"

She has so much to learn about beauty!
