Case Kodiak

I have a new and never used Kodiak with sheath and no box. The brand is CASE-XX (one dot between CASE and XX) Does anyone have a date for this knife?

Hi John;

Can you provide a photo of the tang stamp? Also check the underside of the brass guard to see if the metal is plain or if there is a star stamped under each end.

I'm more studied on the Case pocket knives than fixed blades;

However the "stars" indicate a post 1973 Kodiak, and the CASE XX USA Stamp indicates 1965-1979 production.

So that narrows it to 1973-79.

I believe that the "dot" in between the CASE and XX indicated either 1978 or '79 production, but I am not certain of that.

In my experience the $$ value is similar for all Kodiaks from '73 to about '83, regardless of the exact year.

Thank you very much sir. When I get into my Case pockets I’ll probably ask for help. I was just looking at an antique carving knife with steel made by my great grandfather Jean Case’s company Case Brothers Cutlery, Little Valley, NY. I’m not even sure I remember having that set. I keep finding things. It will be fun this summer when I put all these items on my new AAPK store platform.

Brad Wood is rumored to have such a book in work. Brad is the author of the section on Case fixed blade knives in Sargent’s 7th edition and has authored articles published by Knife Magazine on Case and Kinfolks. He has discovered a good deal of information since Sargent’s was published. I’m hoping he will include Case, Kinfolks and Cattaraugus fixed blades into a single book. I’m ready to buy it as soon as it is made available.

Meantime Sargent’s remains the best resource I know of on Case fixed blades.
