Dimitri, those 2 are special knives for sure. I have never seen the word "BETAARON" before. Do you know what it refers to ?
And the bone handle with hard carving on it, do you have a name for this type of work ? I think "scratted" is not as artistically designed as is your knife. With those handles and "Cast Steel" would this be from about 1850-1880 ?

Don't know what it refers to, but it is a registered trademark of Walker.

I think this term was started by a knife collector and dealer and it is now widely refered to as such.

I believe the term,"scratting" is an archaic use of the word "scratching" meaning to scratch;as with one's claws. I can see it being used in the context of making designs in bone or ivory/

Not My Knives!

These came up as a group lot for sale on an internet auction, I saved the picture and thought they should be posted here for posterity, beautiful old knives!

Two Blade Folding Bowie Knife-
5 3/4" blades. "Tillotson & Co. Columbia Place Sheffield". C.A. Burton on oval inlay in horn handle.

IXL Wood Handled Folding Bowie Knife-
" blade, "George Wostenholm SHEFFIELD".

Stag Handled Folding Bowie Knife w/Lion Head-
6.5" blade, Lion head on both ends & a corkscrew in handle.

Stag Handled Folding Bowie Knife-
6" blade, "W&S BUTCHER SHEFFIELD". Fancy silver bolsters, small chip in handle.

Here is a Jos. Rodgers "Her Majesty" 3 1/2" ivory swell center Double Whittler. Only the master blade is marked "England" and it is on the back side. This i think indicates a knife made soon after 1891 as the other 4 blades are marked "Sheffield" with no "England".
I will show the markings in the next post.
