Searching for a craftsman to replace K'roo pocketknife scales was successful

Hi all,

I have a K'roo Barlow with sneeze wood scales. One of the scales cracked. I posted a request for help in finding someone to replace the scales. And I've already found someone. So, thanks to those who responded. I'm new to the site and not sure how to end the string, but I'll shut down for now since I've gotten what I needed.

When the repaired knife is returned I'll post a picture (with the craftsman's permission). Again, everyone's help is greatly appreciated.

Hi all,

I have a K'roo Barlow with sneeze wood scales. One of the scales cracked. I would like the scales replaced and am not particular about the material (as long as the scales are a matched pair). Anybody know of someone who would be interested in doing this? First things first -- if anyone can help me, I'll insure the knife and send it along for an estimate. I'm not one to quibble about the cost. And, there's no rush for the project to be finished. Thanks.

Could you post a picture of the knife? I don't think I have ever seen a K'roo Barlow, nor one with sneeze wood scales.

Here's the K'roo. Nice knife, but I plan to replace the wood with jigged bone.

K'roo knives are expensive.
Shouldn't it be covered by a warranty?

Maybe, but I've had the bolster engraved since this picture was taken. Plus, I'm not too fond of the sneeze wood. So, I'm going to end up with a customized custom knife.

It does not matter that you had the bolsters engraved. Custom knife makers usually will repair any defect that occurs. K'roo should at least be informed and sent the picture you posted above so that he is aware that "Sneeze wood" might not be suitable for knife handles.

It's already been mailed off to have the scales replaced, but good idea -- I'll ask the old scales to be returned to me and send them along to the maker so he can take a look. Thanks.

CV, I'm glad that you found someone to work on it. I've never used "sneeze wood" before or even heard of it. So, I did a search and this one came up on ebay. It does have a pretty pattern/grain, but if you look at the auction pictures closely, at least on this knife, stress cracks have developed on, or adjacent to just about every one of the pins.

Wow, that one is really 'cracked up' !
Either Sneeze wood is not suitable for knife handles or the wood was not 'stabilized'.
Having seen these 2 Sneeze wood knives i would never buy a knife with these handles.
