D/S/E, Solingen

Could one of you German knife enthusiasts out there provide any information as to the manufacturer's name on this knife. I have had it in my collection for several years but am now expanding the information in my spreadsheet descriptions. Any information would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Joe D.

Did more research and have answered my own question. The logo is actually D/E/S under a lance and flag, a brand name of David Everts. The original David Everts company was founded in 1806 and registered in Solingen in 1886. The founder’s grandson, Julius Everts, sold the Everts company and trademarks to Ludwig Groten in the 1930’s. Ludwig’s son, Hermann, took over management of Groten in 1963 continuing to produce knives under the Ludwig Groten and David Everts (D/E/S) logos. Mr. Groten dissolved Ludwig Groten GmbH in 1975, but reformed David Everts GmbH in the mid 1980’s continuing to produce D/S/E knives.

Joe, thank you for posting this knife company history. So knives with these markings are still being made. Good to know.

Roland, I have no current info. as to whether the Everts trademark knives are still in production. My source of basic info.in this was J. Anthony Carter’s book, “German Knife And Sword Makers......1850 - 1945”. The Everts (D/E/S) trademark is referenced in pages 194 - 195 under David Everts, and pages 227 - 228 under Ludwig Groten. It’s kind of fun to research some of these old trademarks and actually succeed in your efforts.

BTW, the last reference to continuing production of D/E/S knives was in 2001. The subject knife was purchased in Oberammergau Germany in 1989. Well made knives IMO.
