Any Train Enthusiasts Out There?

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Awesome pictures, guys! ::tu:: ::tu::

Saw this railroad stamping on a scoop shovel at the farm today. Could be from the coal shoveling days? ::shrug::

Not really sure, cudgee? ::shrug:: Could be from the 50s or older for all I know. The newest it could be is 1971, that's when Chessie came into existence.

My, my, my, I suppose I need to make amends!

There have been some really nice posts here the last couple of days. David, I think your moose may have created a new subcategory within this thread, "knives and trains".

We walked through the Virginia Avenue underpass this morning en route to Sheetz for coffee. Some interesting icicles.

We had a 13'6" underpass that got clobbered a time or three. But construction has gotten it to 14" now.

VR Grain Hopper at Geelong 1978.jpg
grain hopper being painted at newport 1972.jpg
A couple of pictures of grain hoppers from the old Victorian Railways. These were introduced in about 1970. They replaced the old open grain carrying carriages. These could carry 55 tons of grain compared to 22 tons of the old open carriages. The top photo is of one at Geelong rail yards, the second one is of one being painted at the Newport workshops in 1972.

Not bad, hit up a knife show which was nice. No luck at the railyards, not this time anyway. Got some tips for a return trip in near future. It was a combination of poor time management on my part and unable to find decent vantage points. Security is zealous in those "no go" areas. I will succeed next time.

Here is an old Catt with an etch which I think makes it eligible for this thread. George Lord (early 20th century) was well respected for his knowledge in working with steam boilers. He built a very successful business based on his Boiler Compounds, which were additives to boiler feedwater to prevent scales, corrosion, and sludge. In other words, they helped to maintain efficiency of boilers and keep them in safe working order. Information is limited, but from what I have read, Lord's Boiler Compounds were marketed/sold for use in steam locomotives as well as industrial and residential use.
