Nice pics, thanks for posting. I look forward to more from that place, I like that old tower.
St Louis style BBQ is not as famous, or readily apparent, as Carolina, or Memphis, or Kansas City, or Texas.....but there are some good BBQ joints there. I assume maybe John saw some of them on Food network or something. I have my favorites and if I happen to partake, then yes, I will post pictures!

That is an awesome picture.....in many ways. Great nostalgia in an old beer name and great nostalgia (for me anyway) for the old Illinois Central yards, love those old boxcars.

My tiny home town was a "railroad town" back in the day. Yard, maintenance shop, roundhouse, freight house, station, etc. All gone now...
I guess it is...
I remember reading some news articles several years back that made it sound like the railroads would be making a big come-back as the most popular and economical means of freight transport. I was really hoping it would happen!

Bob, i don't want to politicize the thread, but it all comes down to money and lobby groups. You have the truckers union over there which has huge political clout and power, and they will not give any ground when it comes to losing freight to rail. We have the same problems here as well as incompetent governments hooked on road and petrol taxes. We have also been promised huge infrastructure spends on rail networks that never come to fruition, just so frustrating for farmers and everyone relying on rail. Correct Bob, i have many books on rail history, and the advent of the car, especially mass production and making them affordable to the average person and road freight with trucks getting bigger have had a huge impact on all rail.

This is probably WAY off topic but I couldn't resist posting it. I've always been fascinated with items created in miniature and when I first saw this had to download it to my files. Made by an artist named Cindy Chin. It is a carving of a railroad train done on an ordinary carpenter's pencil! I wonder how many she broke before she got a good one?Hope you enjoy it and stay tuned for my thread on model railroads.
