Ceramic, anyone?

I found a good price on this new Stone River ceramic knife. Stone River ceramic knives have a good reputation as far as ceramic knives go.

I know ceramic knives are fragile, but I love the blades. They are light, shiny, smooth as glass, and they are SHARP! The only bad cut I've ever gotten from handling a knife was from a ceramic blade.

Anyone else like or carry them?

Nice looking knife. I didn't know anyone made a ceramic folder. I've got three different kitchen knives that are ceramic. Your right, they're light and sharp.

In the early 1990's Boker made 2 single blade folders with ceramic blades. This is the larger model at about 4" closed. There was a smaller on at about 3". The blade is ceramic and the handle is titanium.

I've always wanted to try this one, but I don't think I'll get the chance as it says "Discontinued". I hear that Ceramic is very difficult to sharpen.

It is difficult. To do it properly, it's my understanding you need a special diamond wheel sharpener. Or you need to take it to a professional.

I once tried to sharpen another ceramic blade with my whetstone. I ruined it, of course. I learn things the hard way.

I had the smaller one RalphAlsup mentioned but gifted it to my Brother In Law. I was cleaning up a battery terminal with it and took a few chips out of it. Dont never tork the blade in any way. I also learn things the hard way. I had a friend take the chips out by resharping it for me. He did a fine job, but told me he would never do it again! It was a good light knife. Weighed in at a whopping 1 oz.. I liked it well enough, but like steel in my knives much better. Carbon or stainless it's all good!

woodwalker, I also had the small knife. In the 90's I was on airplanes at least 2, if not 5 or 6 times per week. I carried the small boker in my pocket during my travels. I would leave it in my pocket as I passed through the metal detector and it never did set of the metal detector. I don't know if it was simply too small to matter, or if the titanium and ceramic were undetectable by the scanners at the time. Luckily those road warrior days are behind me. I would not try this today .

Yes sir, I always heard that the xray machines at the airports wouldn't detect it. I never tried. But times have changed and if I remember right we paid pretty good money for that little bugger back then. I ordered mine from Cabelas. My Brother in Law liked it and I just give it to him. Gifted both of my brothers a Case knife as well as my dad. Then gifted my son-in laws Case knife each. Figured they would each have one to remember me by. Now I got to start back on my collection again!

I don't have any folding ceramic knives but I do have a fixed blade that I use every day for meals.Made in Belgium and I paid a whopping $4 for it. Noticed one day the tip was broken off slightly.Took me forever on a rough diamond stone to put it back on. Have used it for two or three years now and it is still sharp as the day I got it.
