Re: It's In The Mail
Agreed. I prefer the Schrade USA 8OT/881/885UH, and in currently available knives, the Case 47 (and especially) the 18 pattern for EDC. Not too big, not too small. I like the Jumbo Stockman for farm work, as it gives me a master blade that is bigger than what I typically carry, as well as the smaller coping and spey blades, so I don't have to carry a second knife, and can just go with the Jumbo Stockman and a multitool (which usually also serves as my one-hand open blade). I don't like anything with a sheath, as they tend to hang up on equipment, which can cause a bad situation fast. I just realized this model is actually 4 3/8" closed, even bigger than the 4 1/2" Jumbo Stockman.TPK wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 8:03 pmCool find! A little large for me but a nice EDC!cody6268 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 4:38 pm Nice! Given it's a Case, and a limited edition that is not some ugly commemorative (which Case makes way too many of), you did really well!
I picked up this used and beat-up 2001-dated, probably Queen-made Moore Maker Stockman for an EDC. This appears to be a Jumbo Stockman at 4 1/4" closed, which would make it as being based on the #49. I wanted something I wouldn't care to use as my work knife on the farm, and not baby like I do most of my old bone and wood-handled knives. I paid $35 for it, probably a bit much given the condition. Seller says it has good snap and no wobble, however. But, Moore Maker prices on the secondary market seem inflated to me, especially from Texan sellers. And, I've seen some knives similar to this and of similar age also made by Queen for $150 or more on the Moore Maker site.
This is the only real problem, a small chip in the bone. Worn smooth, but still gonna need to be patched.
Because Jumbo Stockmen, while being solid workhorses (and the Case 75 Stockman is really popular with farmers here, as is the 54 Trapper), are a brick in the pocket, I've also ordered a good quality belt sheath. I have some cheap ones that are a tight fit for bigger knives, and really poor quality leather. I ordered this one from South Texas Tack (where I normally buy my new Moore Makers online, since they're not sold at all here in VA). I think this is one of the ones their in-house saddle shop makes. Saddle shop sheaths are MUCH better than the factory sheaths or cheap generic ones most feed stores carry. But, they're often more expensive. But, oddly not in this case. This one was $15, but a bit over $20 once shipped.![]()

Re: It's In The Mail
These two were $28 shipped. The Barlow is yet another Imperial--my third now. Those are good working knives. The steel sharpens up great, they're light in a pocket and cheap enough to lose. The Barlows feel better in-hand than most of the other shell handles. The Schrade USA 96OT Bearhead Trapper is in better condition than the one I have, as the main blade isn't sharpened as much. The square brass head on the metal pick is missing, unfortunately. How in the heck did that happen? The worst I've done is blunt the very tip on the one on my 96OT when I used it to start a hole for a screw, and that was fixed with the fish hook groove on an old sharpener I had. Tweezers are easily found, but one CANNOT find picks. This will allow me to carry the worse one a bit more, and maybe even throw it in my work pack. I am thinking I may just get the 96OT rehandled.

Condor Seki Japan 81 SSG - Snagged off the bay last week, seller had it listed as a 83 SSG which nearly identical. This one however is numbered, so I don't know exactly what I've got really,... until it gets here. There is a prototype edition of this which has different micarta scales, and seems to be an older than mine too. (or maybe someone here knows this knife better than I) Did ok for $80

Some good looking items headed your way fellow knife'rs.
Even thou this dude hasn't been updating much, we have a wack slug of knifing items, headed are way soon.
Been slowly putting together a package, with the help of my good bro, Sharp 'N Shiny knives. He's da man, for helping me out so much.
Bunch of Queen catalogues off the bay, pile of sharpening stones from Mr.Case, 2 custom knives from Mr.Jeffin, ect. ect. Honestly, I don't remember everyting I got coming; fibro fog, and being swamped for ya...
That's why, my fellow knife addicts, stay off these threads. Being around a bunch of enablers, doesn't help things any, tis the only way to keep yourself in check.

My first ever Damascus blade ! Mcusta MC-14D - 3.25 inch Japanese VG-10 core Damascus blade with cocobolo wood handles. I'm on some kinda of Seki Japan kick right now, lol. Some of the sharpest knives I've ever had were from Japan, and they lasted too. Not the kind of knife you edc, but it sure is purty.

Re: It's In The Mail
This might sound embarrassing as someone who focuses on Schrades, but I didn't have an 8OT until now (not counting one I was given with the main blade busted off). I have several of its siblings, however. an SC505 (safety award for Norfolk Southern's local branch, the Pocahontas Division), 885UH( genuine stag, unknown LE as it was never finished at the factory) 885 King Ranch (Staglon), Sabre Monarch 231, and 89OT Blazer (serrated sheepsfoot)
That is, until now. This one was $25 shipped, which is just about right to me (as I'm spending more, and putting more focus on bone and stag handles these days). Not too beat up, however. Gonna definitely use this one. I'm waiting until I can find an older one with the match strike pull for the collection. The 231 has that, and it's a gorgeous knife.
