I have an inquiry on a sheath maker that used to be talked about on this site quite often about the time I joined AAPK (late-07). I think I would recognize the name if I seen it but not sure. If I remember correctly he was maybe partners with a guy on the site also. It also seems like he had a website too, but not sure about that either. Any help would be appreciated.
Also if you know of a good sheath maker, please let me know. If you don't want to say on here for fear of hurting someone's feelings, please drop me an email. Email addy will be posted at bottom. I have trouble getting into my PM's.
There may be a name for the type of sheath I'm wanting, but being very unknowledgeable about them, I wouldn't know. I want a sheath to be made on the Ed Fowler design. The knife fits snuggly in the sheath with no snap/clasp needed. It would need to be fitted well to take into account wear on the sheath and becoming loose. I am buying my first fixed blade to be a user and it's a cheapie. I will no doubt have more in the sheath than the knife cost. Outside of having a custom knife made, the only thing I found close to what I wanted was a Bark River Ptarmigan. But is was just a little different, so I settled on a real cheapie that I think has good blade steel and closer to the design I'm looking for. Thanks for any help.

Re: Help with a sheath maker.
Brad,
I think the guy you are thinking of is Paul Long.
He is the best I know.
Email me (link below) & I will give you his email & phone number.
He still posts once in a while on the different forums, but he is so busy making sheaths that he doesn't have much time to play on the forums, and he tells me that he loves it (making sheaths that is).
Take care,
Dale

Re: Help with a sheath maker.
the type of sheath your describing is a pouch sheath. He'll need the knife to properly fit it.
You wet the leather and mold it to the form of the knife. If properly fitted it will remain snug for the life of the knife.

Re: Help with a sheath maker.
Here is a sheath Paul Long (sheathmaker) made for me.
The knife is a Camillus I finished from a blank sold after the Camillus auction.
Paul does an outstanding job on all his sheaths.
Cowboy is right, he did need the knife to get the proper fit on the sheath.
