KA-BAR-TIDIOUTE???

Hey Guys,
I just got this 2001 collectors club and had two questions.
The clip blade says KA-BAR Olean NY- But the main blade says Tidioute cutlery which I believe is made in PA.
Did Tidioute make this one blade for the knife ?
Also it was advertised as bone handles- I've not seen bone scales like this before. What do you think?
This is a stunning knife and I fell in love instantly. It's a whopping 4-5/8" closed and I like the two tone scales.

Thanks for looking Jim- They may very well be bone. I just haven't seen them like that before. Pics don't do justice.

Those handles are definitely bone. Case refers to the style as "appaloosa bone." I don't know if what other companies call it. It has been made in many different colors.

i have a 2004 kcc saddlehorn. same markings, but ck-04 modle number. red splotchy bone handles. overall feel is case made. flat bolsters and flat bone. a lot of the kcc knives have been made by queen as well. are your handles colored differently?
it is a handfull.

Yes Johnny- one side is a modeled brown color and the other side kind of creamy. That's one of the things I liked about it. I've seen other knives with different color handles and I think they called them "trick knives". I could be wrong. This is my second year of serious collecting and you guys have helped me a LOT!! Thanks for the input. I hope to be as good as Johnny one day.

Might I suggest a good book on the subject? These were bone, made by CASE for Kabar. Tidioute is the original company credited with KaBar's beginning, although there is far more to it than that. THese were made for the now none existent KaBar Collectors club.

Actually no additional info. I have pic of this knife in there to show the newer versions relating to the old company. My book pretty much stopped at the move to Olean for Union Cutlery back in 1912. I speak very little of newer productions. My point in mentioning the book was that it would educate those who wanted to know about the history of Tidioute and why the blade on the Newer KABAR would have TIDIOUTE on it.

I guess I am into that sort of thing more than most.

I, for one, am glad you're "into that sort of thing". And I'm even more glad you are willing to share the information you have worked to gather. History is a big part of this hobby, and I believe it adds greatly to the enjoyment of it.
