bh, bob, thanks for sharing. Isn't it amazing that something so small can survive at below zero and at 100 wearing the same clothes at both.! ::nod:: ::nod::

Great insight, Floyd! The temp has been hanging around 4 or 5 above all day here, and I am going through a lot of sunflower seeds.

Nice photos, Ike, Mrwatch, and Homer.

The past few days of cooler weather have really brought the birds to my feeder.
Red-bellied Woodpecker

And a lot of birds that do not come to the feeder are hanging around for seeds that fall to the ground. Plus some birds like the Waxwings that just winter in the area.

We finally have Robins here. They were slow arriving this year, but now at least a couple of hundred are hanging around our neighborhood.

Beautiful shots, Mel. I also see Robins and Waxwings hanging out together. They (Robins) are so common here all year around, it seems strange to me, that some areas only see Winter migrants. I guess what I see now, are Robins that have migrated in from the North, and you have migrants from the Midsouth and the Midwest?

I am a few weeks late, but here are some Christmas cards to my fellow members. We have some sun today, in between 8 or 9 inches of snow yesterday and another 4 forecast tomorrow. It makes for nice pictures, tho temps still in single digits.

Nice photos, Ike and Homer. I see that both of you have had some snow. No such luck here.

With the current cold spell, I have had more birds in my back yard than for years. Today I sat down in my recliner in front of the windows for a nap. But I could not go to sleep because of the scores of birds of about ten species that were continuously flitting about outside.

Thanks, Floyd, Mel,and BH!

One thing about heavy snow cover and frigid temps, the birds don't stray far from the feeder. I can go out within 5 or 6 feet of them, and they will just sit there and pose for a picture while waiting for that feeder to be refilled.

Four species of sparrows: House, White-Crowned, Song. The largest sparrows, Cardinals, get their own shots.
