from LT's book - presto small commando. 4 1/8", clip blade, metal handles, steel bolsters.

Actually these were made in 2 sizes the smaller business size and the larger full size hunter. 4, 1/8" approx and 4,7/8" approx ( closed ). These were less expensive civilian versions of the military models which were in jigged bone and later brain plastic. These had metal handles made to simulate the bone style scales. Let me know if you want more information. LT PS these were black and as you can see usually lost paint from the handles. When I was a kid my older cousin came over to keep an eye on me when my parents went out. I remember him taking one of these out of his pocket and showing it to me, apparently I was pretty impressed this was the first automatic I had ever seen I was about 6 years old. This began my fascination with automatic knives . You could say that he got me addicted. Prestos were made by G Schrade in Bridgeport CT in this his last knife company he tried with several innovations and new styles to reduce costs this was one of those efforts these knives were sold on cards in candy stores ect. The were much less expensive to produce than the military bone versions. PPS I suppose as an after thought I should also mention that several companies made what was essentially a similar patterned knife with inexpensive handles two of these companies were edgemaster and shursnap. Edgemaster also made the same pattern and used the jigged metal pattern handles as well, these were a step down from the presto versions still I feel it is worth mentioning since it is part of the evolution (which in this case meant cheapening both in price and product ) of these.
