Case knife question

Post by Pawn1 »

So I’m curious how come this Knife has the bow tie shield that was used in the 20s but the xx tang stamp dates it as a 1940 to 1964. I know early greenbone can be on early xx knives but never seen a bow tie shield on one.

I tried to enlarge and lighten your picture to get a better look at it. I'm a long ways from an authority on this, but at least to me the inlay work around the shield looks shoddy and probably didn't come from the factory with this shield? Maybe they didn't have the right shield for it and tried to make this work if the original was lost ? Hopefully someone more qualified can answer.

Is this your knife on ebay? Looks like you'll do well on it !

Is it a XX blade in a tested frame?

I don't believe XX's ever had that shield. Tested toenails did come with an oval shield in their later production.
