The ICE trains set a record of 406,9 km/h. But they normally don't exceed 300 km/h with passengers on board. Here is a link with a few pictures of the inside of the train.

In the north-western part of Germany there are a number of small, flat islands call "Halligen". These are mostly inhabited by farmers. The water around them is so shallow, especially at low tide, that no large boats can be used to get to them. So..., they have trains. Or as I will call them "MTV's" for "Motorized-Track-Vehicles". They are used to transport anything & everything but mostly they transport the mail. The tracks are 900mm apart. Or about 35.5 inches.

I think these might be the most interesting "trains" in Germany. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

It’s cool to see both the high tech fast travel and the little one with open cars . Think when we can travel again the rail system in Europe is the way to go . We’ve been checking them out and they’re very punctual and comfortable.

Been worried about ya, missing in action for a couple of days, glad all is good. I have a link for you, you were commenting on your interest in our grain trains over here, if you google this link i hope you will find it interesting. If you do look it up, at about the 7.50 mark there is a grain train coming out of Dunnolly station up Gooseberry hill, it really makes the loco's work.

I gravitate towards the unusual, so yes I do. Looking for some more GG-1 pictures, they're pretty distinct and unique as well.

John, good post, the 40s thru the 60s are a Railfan's dream, in my book. There was still steam, diesels were coming on, streamliners were in vogue, the old classic depots were still around, most of the small lines hadn't yet been gobbled up by the big boys, and photographers as well as Hollywood preserved much of the history.
Here are a couple of pics that I recently saved. A Gulf Mobile & Ohio diesel along with a steam loco, and how about these Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe steam locos? What a lineup of horsepower!

Really cool pictures, Ike. Wish I could find one of the inside of the Cumberland Roundhouse like you posted. My Dad said sometimes a loco would get loose and go through the back wall into the middle of Virginia Ave.

Great photo's. I could not have expressed my sentiments any better, everything you say about the 40's-60's and into the 70's is just so correct, for me it was just a treasure trove. Hope you liked some of the links i provided, greensleeeves94 is a dedicated poster of videos and very knowledgeable. .

I am always on the lookout for railcars with old logos, and/or, logos of companies that no longer exist. I decided I would try and photograph, when possible, any that I see. Here are a couple I have seen recently. Southern Pacific and Northwestern were both absorbed by Union Pacific in the mid 90's, these 2 cars were in separate UP subdivisions.

So, the photos of the 2 railcars are mine, and I downloaded a couple of locomotive pics to show for each company as well.

The first photo, is that a general carry wagon or a specialist wagon for something?

An auto carrier, for hauling new automobiles from the assembly plants. They are basically a flat car with 2 levels of automobiles. When I was growing up, they were open on the sides. This made the cargo susceptible to vandalism, so the mesh siding was added in the 70s or 80s.

Train thread on a knife forum . . . it's like devine intervention. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

I live a block and a half from the BNSF Depot. This is where the crews change. From my Apt I can watch trains all day long. Ike I see a lot old rail cars. I'll try to remember to get some pics for you when it warms back up and I start going track side again. While I dont care much for the tagging. Some of these people are talented. Its also interesting to see some of the themes. There are certain taggers that are regular and quite prolific. It seems like something we just have to live with in this day and age. Do any of you know who Bozo Texino is?

That is pretty interesting, David. "Palm Tree Herby" was the guy we had in my neck of the woods. He worked in the yards in St Louis, and I wish I had a buck for every one of his pieces of work I saw on boxcars back in the 70s and 80s.
