That's a wild grille on that one, Ike.
I've seen pictures of locos like this but would love to see one up close.
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

What do you guys think about cab-forward steam engines? I wonder how the coal gets into the firebox? Looks like a big 2-8-8-4 backwards. Another recent Twitter post.

Here is a picture I took last night. This grain that is being loaded is likely headed for barges on the Mississippi.

Re: Any Train Enthusiasts Out There?
Thanks for the comments on the photo, guys. I had driven by that mill earlier in the daylight and regretted not taking a picture, The night shot turned out alright, I just wish the light snow that was falling at the time would have shown up in it.
David, I had to look up Cimarron Valley. Thanks for showing that, it is good to see the different regional short lines, nice looking loco.

One of our old Victorian Railways B Class bulldog nose EMD's that has been bought and refurbished in the colors of the new owners. These old locos are up to 60 years old, and considering the miles they have done, are just amazing. I can see now why these loco's started my interest in trains.

Wow mate, that tis most neat indeed!
The oldest loco, I've ever seen on are lines up here, is an old emd switcher at P&H. The second oldest was a GP45 that CN refurbed.
Cool stuff indeed!

Actually i made a mistake, the first of these started their commission in 1952, 69 years ago.WillyCamaro wrote: ↑Wed Feb 03, 2021 11:52 pmcudgee wrote: ↑Wed Feb 03, 2021 10:15 pm One of our old Victorian Railways B Class bulldog nose EMD's that has been bought and refurbished in the colors of the new owners. Brenda and I do a 4 mile loop each weekend day and on holidays when we don't go out of town. These are some pictures of Norfolk Southern in action. Occasionally we have an AMTRAK sighting too.

Great pictures, John, glad you shared. Must be nice to watch trains while getting a little exercise. 4 mile loop? Walking? Running? Biking?1967redrider wrote: ↑Thu Feb 04, 2021 2:44 am Brenda and I do a 4 mile loop each weekend day and on holidays when we don't go out of town. Walking, Ike, and there's a Dunkin a little after Mile 1 so we call it the coffee walk. Our best time is around 1 hr. 10 mins. The train tracks are just on the other side of the stream/levy at the bottom.

SSR Loco.jpgSince your first posts to this thread, I have been reading up on Australian railroads. I was looking at bulldog nose pictures and reading up on SSR tonight, but got sidetracked on grain and coal trains. The picture below is quite a scene, do you live anywhere near the coal fields or where you would see those looong grain trains? I have spent a lot of time in my life, sitting at a crossing, while watching a long coal train pass, but have probably never seen a grain train as long as some in parts of Australia.

Yes, I noticed those multiple locos first thing and knew they were doing some serious work.
Thanks for posting that photo and giving us a glimpse of your area, fascinating!

Lousy weather, partially obstructed view, but managed a quick shot of a BNSF coal train that was movin' on.....
