I picked one of these up in Wisconsin from a dealer. I really didn’t know the history, just that it caught my eye and is beautiful. Would love to know how many you ultimately made? Thank you!

I know this is a little off subject - but there is so much switchblade knowledge on this thread I have to ask- is there any video of the famous Schrade red motorized switchblade display? I have tried to describe this machine to fellow collectors and how It was set up, and how it works. I was fortunate enough to see one working at the Eugene Oregon knife show 20 years ago. It was brought to the front of the show and ran for only ten minutes - it literally stopped the show as a crowd gathered around to watch it run. I've heard there's only two of those in existence? Is there any photos or video of it anywhere?

Years ago I was talking to Dave Swinden about those very machines. It came up because I had just sold one of the knives that the thumb "manipulated" to someone who owned one of the machines. The knife was specially made at the factory with tubes in place of the pivot pins and sear so that the blades could swing freely. He said that shortly after the switchblade knives were outlawed his bosses at Schrade sent him up to the store room. He was to gather up all those displays and anything else to do with the switchblade advertising and bring them to the dump. There were at least twenty of them up there!! He kept one for himself (which is one the few that are still in existence) and tossed the rest. He said if he'd have known at the time how collectable it all would be he'd have kept them all, but at the time it was just considered another worthless hardware display.

The guys on American pickers dug up an old Indian Motorcycle out of a family’s back yard.

If 20 of them were buried together maybe someone will strike gold!

And I wish to extend a thank you to the original poster of this thread! Now if I I ever come across one of these sure to be collectable switchblade jack knives I will have to try and acquire one. I didn't mean to "highjack" this important knife or The discussion about it. My sincere apologies, and thank you!

On one TV show documentary, a group of gamers dug up an Arizona landfill that had kept detailed records of what was buried where, and found a cache of game cartridges (I believe E T game) and started playing them on the spot. If modern technology can get to the bottom of the "money pit" we could find them if we could research where to start digging. If "toxic contamination" or "material corrosion" has not occurred, anything is possible!
(let's just convince hollywood to dig for the story for us knifers)
